CHANDLER, Ariz. - Beau Layne defeated Doug Vancil to earn his First Mickey Thompson Top Fuel Harley Series Wally. Layne qualified fifth and defeated Rickey House in round one, running his quickest pass of the weekend. In round two Kevin Boyer broke before staging to give Layne the freebie into the final. In the final Vancil got the slight starting line advantage, but had problems right at the hit. He was off and on the throttle, but couldn't get the bike to hook up. Layne was straight down the groove for his first win in his first final round.

Vancil held on to the point lead and Layne moved into second place 26 points behind Vancil.
