Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 54th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Joey Grose Runs 6.795/204.76, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.738/196.36, Was #19
Right Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.564/210.08, Now #11; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 15 percent, barometer 28.79 inches, adjusted altitude 2,718 feet, track temperature 91 degrees.

Grose slowed from his earlier runs and he will not get in the show.

Gray makes his first run of the weekend...he is straight down the groove to go to the number 11 spot. Shane Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.981 sec., 330ft-2.750, 660ft-4.227/167.09 mph, 1,000ft-5.496.

Left Lane: Tom Huggins Runs 11.399/79.01, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.713/207.24, Was #19
Right Lane: Steve Graham Runs 6.622/210.05, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.648/208.65, Was #17

Huggins' car made a quick move toward the wall right at the hit and pushed the clutch back in.

Graham was straight down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend, but will not get in the show. Steve Graham's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.782, 660ft-4.269/165.94 mph, 1,000ft-5.547.

Left Lane: Val Smeland Runs 6.640/207.43, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.665/206.57, Was #18
Right Lane: Fernando Cuadra Runs 6.568/209.85, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.593/211.20, Was #15

Smeland with his quickest and fastest pass of the weekend, but he will not get in the show.

Cuadra kept it hooked up and was straight down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up to the number 12 spot. Fernando Cuadra's incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.746, 660ft-4.223/166.35 mph, 1,000ft-5.496.

Left Lane: Kenny Delco Runs 6.597/209.36, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.612/208.55, Was #16
Right Lane: Alan Prusiensky Runs 6.569/209.49, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.590/209.20, Was #15

Delco with his quickest pass of the weekend, but will not get off the bump spot and will face the number one qualifier tomorrow. Kenny Delco's incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.760, 660ft-4.242/165.88 mph, 1,000ft-5.521.

Prusiensky with a good clean pass, his quickest of the weekend to move up the ladder a couple spots. Alan Prusiensky's incremental times: 60ft-0.973 sec., 330ft-2.741, 660ft-4.220/165.90 mph, 1,000ft-5.496.

Left Lane: Chris McGaha Runs 7.093/154.44, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.560/211.89, Was #10
Right Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 11.955/74.55, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.584/209.95, Was #15

McGaha is real loose and and out of the groove, before he pushed the clutch in.

Nobile with severe tire shake and he clicks it off.

Left Lane: Bo Butner Runs 6.602/211.16, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.553/211.39, Was #9
Right Lane: Deric Kramer Runs 6.683/190.35, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.570/210.50, Was #14

Butner with issues on the burnout...the car is lazy off the starting line. He makes a clean pass, but will not improve. Bo Butner's incremental times: 60ft-1.007 sec., 330ft-2.784, 660ft-4.262/166.05 mph, 1,000ft-5.534.

Kramer's engine lets go around 1000 feet and the car starts trailing a lot of engine smoke. Then after the finish line the there is more engine smoke coming from beneath the car and it has a quick flash of flames. He gets the car stopped safely and is out of the car getting the front end of the car off. The fire was out. The word from the top end is there is no oil.

Left Lane: Matt Hartford Runs 6.543/211.20, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.550/211.39, Was #7
Right Lane: Alex Laughlin Runs 6.541/210.87, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.550/210.18, Was #8

Hartford with his quickest pass of the weekend, but he gets bumped back one spot. Matt Hartford's incremental times: 60ft-0.973 sec., 330ft-2.736, 660ft-4.208/167.43 mph, 1,000ft-5.476.

Laughlin is straight down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder a couple spots. Alex Laughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.967 sec., 330ft-2.730, 660ft-4.204/166.99 mph, 1,000ft-5.474.

Left Lane: Drew Skillman Runs 6.532/211.16, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.537/211.26, Was #5
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.533/211.66, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.543/211.93, Was #7

This is a great side-by-side drag race.

Skillman launched hard and kept it hooked up to make his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder one spot. Drew Skillman's incremental times: 60ft-0.974 sec., 330ft-2.737, 660ft-4.206/168.01 mph, 1,000ft-5.469.

Anderson is straight down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder two spots. Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.736, 660ft-4.203/167.59 mph, 1,000ft-5.469.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.529/212.06, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.531/211.56, Was #3
Right Lane: Tanner Gray Runs 6.534/211.33, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.536/211.33, Was #6

Line launched hard and kept it hooked up to make his quickest pass of the weekend to go to the number two spot. Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.974 sec., 330ft-2.732, 660ft-4.200/167.57 mph, 1,000ft-5.465.

Gray with his quickest pass of the weekend, but will stay in the number 11 spot. Gray will clinch the Pro Stock Championship by qualifying. He becomes the youngest Champion in NHRA history.

He will race his father in round one tomorrow.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.510/211.49, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.527/211.39, Was #1
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.546/211.30, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.530/211.39, Was #3

Coughlin with a perfect light and then runs low E.T. of the event and will improve on his his number one qualifying spot. He will qualify number one for the sixth time this season and that is the most times he has qualified number one in a season. This is the 29th time in his carer he will start Sunday from the number one spot. Erica Enders' incremental times: 60ft-0.973 sec., 330ft-2.739, 660ft-4.212/167.34 mph, 1,000ft-5.480.

Enders with another good pass, but will not improve and will start Sunday from the number three spot. Erica Enders' incremental times: 60ft-0.973 sec., 330ft-2.739, 660ft-4.212/167.34 mph, 1,000ft-5.480.
