POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 54th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Maurice Allen Runs 7.070/185.10, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.114/186.64, Was #20

3:23 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 15 percent, barometer 28.79 inches, adjusted altitude 2,718 feet, track temperature 91 degrees.

Matt Smith is number one at 6.754 and Angie Smith is on the bump spot at 6.969.

Allen steps up and makes his best pass of the weekend, but will not make the field.

Maurice Allen's incremental times: 60ft-1.060 sec., 330ft-2.886, 660ft-4.457/154.69 mph, 1,000ft-5.859.


Left Lane: Melissa Surber Runs 7.052/187.57, Now #19; Best prior run: 17.948/35.60, Was #21
Right Lane: Anthony Vanetti Runs 7.636/132.62, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.074/188.94, Was #20

Surber finally gets her bike to the finish line under power but is not quick enough.

Vanetti lifts early and coasts.

Melissa Surber's incremental times: 60ft-1.076 sec., 330ft-2.885, 660ft-4.475/154.49 mph, 1,000ft-5.860.

Left Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 7.021/192.06, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.978/193.99, Was #18
Right Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 6.975/194.41, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.953/194.86, Was #15

Two more clean pass, but neither rider can improve.

Katie Sullivan's incremental times: 60ft-1.076 sec., 330ft-2.930, 660ft-4.491/156.72 mph, 1,000ft-5.855.
Freddie Camarena's incremental times: 60ft-1.097 sec., 330ft-2.923, 660ft-4.471/158.32 mph, 1,000ft-5.821.

Left Lane: Kelly Clontz Runs 7.018/190.32, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.972/192.85, Was #17
Right Lane: Steve Johnson No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.898/191.29, Was #13

Clontz is the last bike to be able to bump in and Smith is in the next pair. She makes a full pull, but slows from her earlier best.

Johnson has problems at the green. The bike goes about seven feet and stop on the track and gets pushed away.

Kelly Clontz's incremental times: 60ft-1.080 sec., 330ft-2.933, 660ft-4.493/157.34 mph, 1,000ft-5.852.

Left Lane: Angie Smith Runs 7.043/158.07, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.969/192.60, Was #16
Right Lane: Ryan Oehler Runs 6.953/193.88, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.893/196.64, Was #12

Strong early numbers from Smith's bike, but there is a pop from the engine down track and she slows.

Clean pass for Oehler, but he slows from his prior best.

Angie Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.055 sec., 330ft-2.842, 660ft-4.369/159.48 mph, 1,000ft-5.724.
Ryan Oehler's incremental times: 60ft-1.091 sec., 330ft-2.911, 660ft-4.448/158.95 mph, 1,000ft-5.796.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.967/191.21, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.952/191.40, Was #14
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 6.862/193.79, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.871/193.99, Was #8

Ellis makes a great looking pass and is just a little quicker to stay #8.

Stoffer makes another clean pass, close to her prior runs.

Karen Stoffer's incremental times: 60ft-1.066 sec., 330ft-2.892, 660ft-4.440/157.98 mph, 1,000ft-5.799.
Chip Ellis' incremental times: 60ft-1.055 sec., 330ft-2.846, 660ft-4.374/160.33 mph, 1,000ft-5.710.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.826/196.16, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.882/196.13, Was #11
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.908/197.31, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.862/197.48, Was #7

Great pass and a big improvement for Hines to move seven spots up the ladder to the top four.

Arana run clean, but doesn't improve.

Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.062 sec., 330ft-2.844, 660ft-4.360/161.40 mph, 1,000ft-5.687.
Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.099 sec., 330ft-2.915, 660ft-4.443/160.44 mph, 1,000ft-5.773.

Left Lane: Joey Gladstone Runs 6.904/193.57, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.880/196.30, Was #11
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 6.925/193.32, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.838/194.88, Was #7

Both bikes run clean, but can't improve.

Joey Gladstone's incremental times: 60ft-1.071 sec., 330ft-2.866, 660ft-4.398/159.34 mph, 1,000ft-5.746.
Angelle Sampey's incremental times: 60ft-1.092 sec., 330ft-2.890, 660ft-4.417/159.91 mph, 1,000ft-5.765.

Left Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.930/191.70, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.879/194.66, Was #10
Right Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.901/194.38, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.835/195.93, Was #6

Two more clean passes. Two more bikes stay in their spots.

Scotty Pollacheck's incremental times: 60ft-1.053 sec., 330ft-2.856, 660ft-4.405/157.56 mph, 1,000ft-5.764.
Jerry Savoie's incremental times: 60ft-1.058 sec., 330ft-2.868, 660ft-4.404/159.21 mph, 1,000ft-5.748.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.781/197.57, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.824/198.96, Was #3
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.868/195.70, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.828/196.39, Was #5

Big improvement for Arana and a move up the ladder to the new #2 spot for now.

Tonglet runs well too, but doesn't improve.

Hector Arana Jr's incremental times: 60ft-1.040 sec., 330ft-2.823, 660ft-4.332/162.31 mph, 1,000ft-5.650.
LE Tonglet's incremental times: 60ft-1.062 sec., 330ft-2.871, 660ft-4.393/160.63 mph, 1,000ft-5.725.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.791/197.59, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.789/198.38, Was #3
Right Lane: Matt Smith No Time, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.754/201.10, Was #1

Smith gets to the burnout box and decides not to run, as most of the other bikes didn't improve enough to worry him.

Krawiec makes another strong pass, but can't improve.

Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.055 sec., 330ft-2.832, 660ft-4.340/162.12 mph, 1,000ft-5.659.
