LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 18th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Cameron Ferre Runs 6.352/240.00, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Quayle No Time, Now #2

10:24 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 27 percent, barometer 28.02 inches, adjusted altitude 3,864 feet, track temperature 91 degrees.

Quayle had problems staging and received no time.

Left Lane: Derik Milanesio Runs 5.447/261.22, Now #1
Right Lane: Krista Baldwin No Time, Now #4

Milanesio makes a clean pass and takes the early pole. Baldwin had problems and did not make a pass.

Left Lane: Fred Hanssen Runs 5.383/270.70, Now #1
Right Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 5.385/267.32, Now #2

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove with clean passes. Hanssen takes the top spot for now, Bradshaw into the second spot.

Left Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.386/264.23, Now #3
Right Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.757/199.32, Now #5

Mercier makes a clean pass and gets in the third spot for now. Thacker had problems late in the run.

Left Lane: Todd Bruce Runs 5.634/271.19, Now #6
Right Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.521/257.33, Now #5

Bruce moved around a little in the middle of the run but he makes a decent pass to get in the sixth spot for now. Grisel makes a clean pass and gets in the fifth spot.

Left Lane: Shane Conway Runs 5.373/267.22, Now #1
Right Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.586/261.72, Now #7

Conway makes a clean, straight pass to take the top spot for now. Bateman had a cylinder out on the left side all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Brandon Greco Runs 15.321/56.31, Now #12
Right Lane: Julie Nataas Runs 5.270/272.56, Now #1

Greco goes up in smoke at the hit, pedals once, then gives up on the run. Nataas goes right down the groove with a good pass to take the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.349/274.66, Now #3
Right Lane: James Stevens Runs 5.306/274.16, Now #2

Stevens makes a good pass and gets in the second spot for now. Demke makes a clean run and gets in just behind in the third spot.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.295/275.45, Now #2
Right Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.372/267.48, Now #5

Shields makes a clean, straight pass to get in the second spot for now. Fricke makes a decent run and gets in the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.274/275.79, Now #3
Right Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.217/277.43, Now #1

Cowie makes an impressive pass and moves into the top spot to end this session. Severance makes a good run but was falling behind Cowie at every marker.
