ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 33rd annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: John Hale Runs 8.161/75.13, Now #16; No Prior Run

6:17 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 90 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.30 inches, adjusted altitude 3,694 feet, track temperature 113 degrees.

Hale did not make an attempt in the first round. He rattles the tires at the hit, gets about 100 feet out and has to give up on the run.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.867/160.73, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.649/124.45, Was #13
Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 4.140/257.38, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.171/115.37, Was #15

Diehl gets about 300 feet out and hazes the tires. He pedals and goes on through to move into the top half of the field for now. Hagan goes up in smoke about 400 feet out, makes a move to the right and backs off the throttle.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.012/317.05, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.005/152.78, Was #14
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.557/181.57, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.886/159.17, Was #12

Capps makes a full pass this time and goes right down the groove with a good pass to take the top spot for now. Pedregon was on a decent pass but hazes the tires about 400 feet out and aborts the run.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.981/319.82, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.892/159.53, Was #14
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.045/319.67, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.116/270.97, Was #7

Tasca goes right down the groove with the first three second run of the weekend to take the top spot for now. Force drifted to the left all the way through the run but makes a decent pass to move up to the fourth spot for now.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.013/318.99, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.611/183.02, Was #13
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.962/320.05, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.108/305.56, Was #8

Todd goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the day to take the top spot for now. Hight makes a clean pass and moves up to the fourth spot for now.

Left Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.080/266.58, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.222/231.68, Was #12
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.958/315.64, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.072/310.34, Was #9

Wilkerson goes right down the groove with an impressive pass to take the top spot for now. Force was on a good pass but the candles went out a little early and she slowed. She is still able to improve and move up to the tenth spot.

Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 4.051/310.63, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.125/307.30, Was #11
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 3.958/323.66, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.062/312.64, Was #9

Johnson goes down the groove with a good pass, tying Wilkerson and taking the top spot with the faster speed. Campbell makes another good pass and he moves up to the tenth spot.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.986/312.57, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.030/309.49, Was #7
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 4.955/154.99, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.047/317.05, Was #9

Beckman had a good short time but he slowed a little in the middle of the run. He improves and moves up to the fifth spot. Langdon was on a decent pass but hazed the tires and backed off the throttle early.
