ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 33rd annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: David Sheetz No Time, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Jr. Runs 5.311/273.00, Now #6; Best prior run: 21.282/31.69, Was #16

4:13 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 91 degrees, relative humidity 54 percent, barometer 29.31 inches, adjusted altitude 3,776 feet, track temperature 124 degrees.

Sheetz does his burnout, stages, the tree comes down and he never moves. Coughlin goes right down the groove with a clean pass and he moves into the sixth spot.

Left Lane: Terry Schmidt Runs 5.628/252.24, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Karl Brounkowski Runs 6.296/206.83, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.864/231.71, Was #14

Brounkowski had a cylinder out at the hit, gets about 400 feet out and clicks it off. Schmidt makes a clean pass to get in the show in the 14th spot.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 5.313/271.73, Now #7; Best prior run: 17.591/74.63, Was #17
Right Lane: Gary Cooper Runs 5.684/268.17, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.457/267.16, Was #12

Massey goes right down the groove with hits pass and he gets in the show in the seventh spot. Cooper has to pedal early and he slows from his previous pass.

Left Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 6.209/162.59, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.529/149.02, Was #17
Right Lane: Shayne Lawson Runs 5.455/270.05, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.449/270.10, Was #12

Thacker gets out of the groove, makes a quick move toward the centerline, then has to back off the throttle. Lawson makes a clean pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.231/276.18, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.562/270.64, Was #14
Right Lane: Buddy Domingue Runs 5.392/269.46, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.344/263.36, Was #10

Cowie makes an impressive pass and takes the top spot for now. Domingue drifted to the left early in the run but stayed on the throttle.

Left Lane: Rachel Meyer Runs 5.591/273.44, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.436/277.49, Was #12
Right Lane: Shane Conway Runs 5.550/214.31, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.335/266.27, Was #10

Meyer makes a clean pass but doesn't improve. Conway slows late in the run and doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.696/199.23, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.286/274.72, Was #5
Right Lane: Josh Hart Runs 5.552/257.28, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.323/271.19, Was #9

Severance has problems late and is off the throttle early. Hart had problems and slows from his earlier attempt.

Left Lane: Todd Bruce Runs 5.313/274.00, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.283/276.69, Was #4
Right Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 5.522/258.37, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.307/271.02, Was #6

Bruce makes a good pass but doesn't improve. Bradshaw slows near the end of the run.

Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.262/271.73, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.261/273.55, Was #2
Right Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 5.324/271.46, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.281/272.23, Was #3

Fricke makes another good pass but doesn't improve. Samsel slows from his earlier attempt.
