YES Program to Return at Select NHRA Events for 2018

GLENDORA, Calif. -- Education Education

The NHRA Youth and Education Services (YES) Program, presented by the U.S. Army, will feature a stronger focus on S.T.E.M education in 2018 as it enters into its 30th season. Next year will also see an expansion in the YES Program schedule with a presence at 16 out of the 24 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series national events.

Since beginning the YES Program in 1989, NHRA has reached hundreds of thousands of students across the nation to provide quality educational programming onsite at its national drag racing events. As the only full-time educational program in motorsports, participants in the YES Program explore various career opportunities within the world of drag racing while gaining an understanding of the important role that Science, Technology, Engineering and Math play in almost every aspect of the sport. Through demonstrating first hand experiences related to S.T.E.M. education, students are made aware of the myriad of career opportunities that drag racing offers in these fields.

"Thanks to the generous support of the U.S. Army, NHRA's YES Program continues to flourish, reaching tens of thousands of students each year," said Glen Cromwell, NHRA senior vice president, media and marketing. "We want to continue that momentum with a stronger focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. These fields are fundamental for the future and NHRA drag racing offers a myriad of career paths related to S.T.E.M. education."

"The U.S. Army is proud to partner with the NHRA on the YES program, which allows thousands of students to explore highly sought-after career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math," said Elizabeth Wilson, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for marketing. "The program aligns with our mission to promote S.T.E.M. education amongst today's youth and demonstrates how that education can be applied in the real world like in the racing industry or in the Army."
