Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Final Session

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 53rd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Lance Bonham No Time, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.152/187.94, Was #16

2:51 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 36 percent, adjusted altitude 2,823 feet, track temperature 101 degrees.

Lance Bonham is on the bump spot at 7.152 and can't get the engine to start. The crew pushes him away.


Left Lane: Luke Crowley Runs 7.154/186.51, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.234/189.68, Was #17
Right Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 7.079/189.76, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.967/191.02, Was #14

Crowley is the only bike that can bump Bonham. There is a little tire spin off the line at the green and he misses qualifying by just 0.002 seconds.

Sullivan slows form her earlier best.

Left Lane: Ryan Oehler Runs 10.488/78.12, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.002/188.17, Was #15
Right Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.675/135.99, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.955/195.11, Was #13

Oehler struggles to get the engine restarted after the burn out and then has it go silent a ways after the launch.

Camarena is off the throttle and coasting early.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.941/192.25, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.932/191.89, Was #11
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.040/191.57, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.953/192.85, Was #12

Smith is still struggling with low end tune up and Stoffer with mid-track.

Neither bike improves.

Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.887/192.33, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.885/193.79, Was #9
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.912/191.08, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.927/193.60, Was #10

Neither bikes can improve. Savoie is just 0.002 off his best and Smith picks up a tad.

Savoie has problems getting his Suzuki stopped on the top end end and just runs into the kitty litter on the top end.

Jerry Savoie's incremental times: 60ft-1.056 sec., 330ft-2.858, 660ft-4.389/159.97 mph, 1,000ft-5.730.
Angie Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.060 sec., 330ft-2.850, 660ft-4.390/158.19 mph, 1,000ft-5.743.

Left Lane: Joey Gladstone Runs 6.984/192.60, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.873/193.79, Was #7
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.960/192.38, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.878/193.96, Was #8

3:01 p.m. Back to qualifying.

They run close together and can't improve.

Joey Gladstone's incremental times: 60ft-1.081 sec., 330ft-2.900, 660ft-4.455/157.17 mph, 1,000ft-5.819.
Steve Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.088 sec., 330ft-2.901, 660ft-4.446/158.20 mph, 1,000ft-5.799.

Left Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 7.204/193.63, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.861/195.96, Was #6
Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr No Time, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.828/198.15, Was #4

Arana's bike has big problems right at the green and the engine grumbles hard and quits.

Tonglet is loose off the line and slows.

LE Tonglet's incremental times: 60ft-1.319 sec., 330ft-3.154, 660ft-4.697/158.37 mph, 1,000ft-6.048.

Left Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.817/195.17, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.839/195.08, Was #5
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.814/196.24, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.799/197.13, Was #2

Great 1.032 sixty foot time for Pollacheck and he moves up the ladder one position to number four.

Clean pass for Hines, but no improvements.

Scotty Pollacheck's incremental times: 60ft-1.032 sec., 330ft-2.823, 660ft-4.345/161.11 mph, 1,000ft-5.673.
Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.046 sec., 330ft-2.819, 660ft-4.341/160.37 mph, 1,000ft-5.674.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 6.828/196.56, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.805/196.53, Was #3
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.822/195.85, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.781/197.68, Was #1

Neither bike will improve on two clean passes.

This completes qualifying and Krawiec is now officially the 2017 Pro Stock Bike Champion!

Chip Ellis' incremental times: 60ft-1.051 sec., 330ft-2.843, 660ft-4.363/161.29 mph, 1,000ft-5.689.
Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.061 sec., 330ft-2.835, 660ft-4.346/161.02 mph, 1,000ft-5.679.

3:06 p.m. Lance Bonham is on the bump spot at 7.152.
