Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 53rd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Courtney Force Runs 3.871/334.57, Now #1; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 7.822/87.01, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.748/85.82, Was #14

3:34 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 52 percent, barometer 28.84 inches, adjusted altitude 2,650 feet, track temperature 90 degrees.

Tommy Johnson is number one at 3.887 and Robert Hight is on the bump spot at 8.347.

Force's Camaro powers off the line and drives hard to the finish line to move from the bottom to the top of the field. Big speed too!Twenty MPH faster than anyone right now!

Pedregon was away first and had strong numbers early , but is off the throttle and coasting before the 330 lights.

Courtney Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.877 sec., 330ft-2.245, 660ft-3.144/287.47 mph.
Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.717, 660ft-5.190/086.66 mph.


Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 8.319/82.60, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.358/204.17, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.512/88.46, Was #13

Jim Campbell is on the bump spot at 7.779.

Todd gets his problems from round one session remedied, but Shakes and spins early.

Worsham was on a strong pass, but the Camry drives steadily towards the center line and he has to lift. He still moves four spots up the ladder.

Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.882 sec., 330ft-2.258, 660ft-3.266/223.73 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 7.801/85.35, Now #17; Best prior run: 8.347/82.85, Was #18
Right Lane: Jonnie Lindberg Runs 8.089/76.07, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.119/87.17, Was #13

Two broken runs, as the leave together and shake and spin together, and lift together.

Lindberg is in the field, but Hight isn't! Hight still move up one spot on the ladder.

Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 7.967/81.43, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.779/84.77, Was #16
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.835/334.98, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.825/95.35, Was #12

Beckman makes it look easy and flies off the line and down the track to take over the top spot big time. 3.107 @287.23 at the six sixty!

Campbell's Charger continues to struggle with traction and he will stay on the bump spot for today.

Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.863 sec., 330ft-2.208, 660ft-3.107/287.23 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 7.947/79.68, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.606/91.30, Was #14
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.956/322.19, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.107/113.64, Was #12

Hagan is coasting early, but Capps makes a much better pass into the top half of the field. It wasn't running on eight cylinders, but he takes over #7 for now.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.874 sec., 330ft-2.271, 660ft-3.205/278.00 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 6.245/107.33, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.692/125.80, Was #12

Bode drops a cylinder right off the line and drives into shake.

Left Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 7.683/94.05, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.107/296.31, Was #9

Diehl's Solara shakes off the line and he has to lift.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.894/331.94, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.902/329.10, Was #4
Right Lane: John Force Runs 7.283/89.09, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.955/316.60, Was #6

Force is away first and gets to near the 330 lights before losing to shake and spin.

DeJaoria matches Force's early incrementals an continues to pull hard right on down the track and into the three eighties at over three hundred thirty MPH. She will stay #4 or now.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.877 sec., 330ft-2.258, 660ft-3.163/287.23 mph.

Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 8.146/86.30, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.887/314.31, Was #3
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.039/149.36, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.913/327.74, Was #5

Johnson's Charger is shaking early and he lifts.

Wilkerson gets to past the 330 lights before smoking the tires.

3:58 p.m. Jack Beckman at 3.835 and Jim Campbell is on the bump spot at 7.779.
