POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 53rd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Don St. Arnaud Runs 5.420/255.77, Now #14; Best prior run: 15.155/72.54, Was #21
Right Lane: Alex Laughlin Runs 5.375/273.72, Now #10; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 52 percent, barometer 28.83 inches, adjusted altitude 2,610 feet, track temperature 91 degrees.

St. Arnaud is straight down the groove to get in the show. Don St. Arnaud's incremental times: 60ft-0.953 sec., 330ft-2.473, 660ft-3.606/222.22 mph, 1,000ft-4.563.

Laughlin launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number 10 spot. Alex Laughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.956 sec., 330ft-2.482, 660ft-3.611/222.84 mph, 1,000ft-4.560.

Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 6.913/137.68, Now #17; Best prior run: 13.624/50.26, Was #22
Right Lane: James Day Runs 7.395/127.94, Now #19; Best prior run: 12.107/65.84, Was #21

Fricke has tire shake early and clicks it off.

Day shook right off the line and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Joey Severance Runs 10.479/76.64, Now #22; Best prior run: 11.173/71.45, Was #22
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.293/274.55, Now #3; Best prior run: 10.434/76.03, Was #21

Severance with tires shake right at the hit and pedaled it, but was back into tire shake and clicked it off.

Demke launched hard and kept it hitting on all eight to go to the number three spot. Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.923 sec., 330ft-2.382, 660ft-3.514/219.61 mph, 1,000ft-4.476.

Left Lane: Ken Webster Runs 5.377/259.01, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.961/134.23, Was #19
Right Lane: Julie Nataas Runs 5.115/280.49, Now #1; Best prior run: 10.240/55.25, Was #21

Webster with a real nice pass, straight down the groove to get in the show. He runs a career best E.T.. Ken Webster's incremental times: 60ft-0.914 sec., 330ft-2.362, 660ft-3.521/213.23 mph, 1,000ft-4.522.

Nataas launched hard and kept it hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot with a great pass. This is her career quickest and fastest pas...Julie Nataas' incremental times: 60ft-0.912 sec., 330ft-2.345, 660ft-3.414/234.00 mph, 1,000ft-4.324. This is the third quickest pass in the history of Top Alcohol dragster and the quickest pass since the 90% nitro rule and since 2004.

Left Lane: Tiffany Januik Runs 6.704/143.81, Now #19; Best prior run: 5.830/182.45, Was #19
Right Lane: Fred Hanssen Runs 5.494/257.28, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.448/268.87, Was #18

Januik is using up all of her lane, and finally clicks it off.

Hanssen with another good pass, just not quick enough to get in the show.

Left Lane: Randy Eakins Runs 11.933/62.83, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.411/264.80, Was #16
Right Lane: Ashley Sanford Runs 5.328/274.33, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.374/270.64, Was #11

Eakins with severe tire shake right at the hit and clicked it off.

Sanford with a great pass to go back into the top half of the show. Ashley Sanford's incremental times: 60ft-0.954 sec., 330ft-2.452, 660ft-3.576/223.99 mph, 1,000ft-4.519.

Left Lane: Krista Baldwin Runs 5.323/268.17, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.391/239.87, Was #15
Right Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.284/277.03, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.370/245.99, Was #11

This was a good side-by-side drag race...

Baldwin was straight down the groove to get into the top half of the show. Krista Baldwin's incremental times: 60ft-0.950 sec., 330ft-2.444, 660ft-3.552/225.63 mph, 1,000ft-4.497.

Bateman launched hard and kept it hitting on all eight to go to the number three spot. Garrett Bateman's incremental times: 60ft-0.959 sec., 330ft-2.443, 660ft-3.547/227.50 mph, 1,000ft-4.479.

Left Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.721/191.67, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.376/263.31, Was #14
Right Lane: Cameron Ferre Runs 5.402/253.90, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.339/262.33, Was #11

Grisel was loose and and out of the groove and close to the centerline, he kept fighting it trying to get back in the groove, before he clicked it off.

Ferre with a clean pass, but will not improve. Cameron Ferre's incremental times: 60ft-0.978 sec., 330ft-2.484, 660ft-3.608/223.80 mph, 1,000ft-4.557.

Left Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 14.080/75.04, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.361/272.67, Was #12
Right Lane: Kim Parker Runs 5.289/274.22, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.318/270.37, Was #7

Mercier lost traction right at the hit and clicked it off.

Parker launched hard and kept it hitting on all eight to go to the number four spot. Kim Parker's incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.445, 660ft-3.541/228.31 mph, 1,000ft-4.477.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.269/275.90, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.331/275.62, Was #10
Right Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.267/273.83, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.291/270.48, Was #5

This was a great side-by-side drag race...

Shields was straight down the groove to go to the number four spot. Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.946 sec., 330ft-2.428, 660ft-3.526/227.96 mph, 1,000ft-4.461.

Cowie with a great pass, he had it hooked up and hitting on all eight to go to the number three spot. Shawn Cowie's incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.359, 660ft-3.485/219.61 mph, 1,000ft-4.448.

Left Lane: James Stevens Runs 5.516/242.10, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.316/269.24, Was #8
Right Lane: Bill Litton Runs 6.821/150.82, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.211/280.14, Was #2

Stevens made a quick move toward the centerline, but he fought and kept it in his lane before clicking it off early.

Litton lost traction early and clicked it off.
