LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 17th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, amount over/under index, and position in order following run, class and class index:

Left Lane: Ray Martin No Time, Now #2 AA/PM Index: 6.80
Right Lane: Ed Niquette Runs 8.749/155.44/0.099, Now #1 A/SMA Index: 8.65

Martin starts to pull into the water box and leaves a trail of fluid and has to shut it off.

Niquette backs off the throttle early.

Left Lane: Mitch Withers Runs 6.761/205.22/-0.479, Now #2 A/A Index: 7.24
Right Lane: Tom Mettler Runs 7.572/178.50/-0.598, Now #1 PST Index: 8.17

Mettler makes a decent pass and takes the early pole.

Left Lane: Ross Wilson Runs 9.291/113.35/0.311, Now #5 C/SM Index: 8.98
Right Lane: Bruce Schmiedl Runs 7.393/179.73/-0.617, Now #1 A/EA Index: 8.01

Schmiedl makes a good pass to take the pole for now. Wilson is off the throttle early.

Left Lane: Mathew Leonard No Time, Now #7 AA/AM Index: 7.07
Right Lane: Clint Sallee Runs 7.043/193.74/-0.297, Now #4 B/D Index: 7.34

Leonard breaks on the burnout and does not make a pass. Sallee stumbles a little at the hit but still makes a decent pass.

Left Lane: Ralph Van Paepeghem Runs 7.433/168.98/-0.577, Now #3 A/EA Index: 8.01
Right Lane: Alan Ellis Runs 6.931/152.26/-0.369, Now #5 A/AA Index: 7.30

Van Paepeghem makes a clean, straight pass and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Chad Green No Time, Now #10 A/PM Index: 6.69
Right Lane: Greg Kamplain Runs 7.046/163.45/-0.584, Now #3 B/ED Index: 7.63

The tree comes down and Green never moves, not sure why. Kamplain makes a decent pass and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Tony Mandella Runs 9.649/109.31/-0.081, Now #8 C/TA Index: 9.73
Right Lane: Ryan Warter Runs 9.400/117.40/-0.040, Now #9 F/SM Index: 9.44

Warter and Mandella were both off the throttle early.

Left Lane: Jim Greenheck Runs 7.733/173.85/-0.597, Now #3 D/AA Index: 8.33
Right Lane: Joe Mozeris Runs 7.651/131.20/0.021, Now #11 B/DA Index: 7.63

Greenheck makes a good pass and gets in the third spot for now. Mozeris is off the throttle early.

Right Lane: Frank Aragona Runs 7.811/136.48/-0.369, Now #8 E/DA Index: 8.18

Skillman makes a clean pass and gets in the show in the fifth spot.

Left Lane: David Rampy Runs 7.401/159.46/-0.609, Now #2 A/EA Index: 8.01

Rampy makes a good pass and gets in the second spot to end this session.
