POMONA, Calif. -- Ron Capps scored valuable qualifying points and Jack Beckman sprinted to the qualifying lead in Funny Car on Friday at the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Jason Line (Pro Stock) and Jerry Savoie (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were qualifying leaders in their respective categories at the 24th and final event of the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season. The Auto Club NHRA Finals marks the conclusion of the six-race NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Top Fuel No. 1 Qualifier Antron Brown drove his Matco Tools Dragster to a 3.713 second pass at 326.56 mph.

Brown, the Top Fuel world champion, piloted his dragster to the provisional No. 1 qualifier during the second session of qualifying.

Funny Car No. 1 Qualifier Jack Beckman drove his Infinite Hero Dodge Charger R/T to a 3.865 second pass at 332.84 mph.

Beckman set the track elapsed time and speed records with his second round pass.

Pro Stock No. 1 Qualifier Jason Line drove his Summit Racng Equipment Chevy Camaro 6.565 second pass at 211.16 mph.

Line, the Pro Stock points leader, took over the qualifying lead during the second round of qualifying.

Pro Stock Motorcycle No. 1 Qualifier Jerry Savoie rode his Savoie's Alligator Farm Suzuki to a 6.844 second pass at 195.93 mph.

Currently qualified in the No. 1 spot, Savoie now leads the championship points battle by one.
