POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 52nd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Luke Crowley Runs 15.795/42.74, Now #1

12:02 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 21 percent, barometer 28.94 inches, adjusted altitude 3,141 feet, track temperature 108 degrees.

Crowley gets to second gear and sits up in the saddle.


Left Lane: Scott Bottorff Runs 7.183/185.56, Now #2
Right Lane: Gunner Courtney Runs 7.080/186.36, Now #1

Career best speed and ET for Courtney.

Left Lane: Chaz Kennedy Runs 7.025/190.40, Now #2
Right Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 6.916/195.39, Now #1

Camarena scores our first six on a clean pass.

Left Lane: Lance Bonham Runs 7.161/185.66, Now #5
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.979/192.44, Now #2

Both bike pull steadily towards the center line going down the track, but stay in their lanes in the lights.

Left Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.922/193.82, Now #3
Right Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.919/192.47, Now #2

A little wiggle at the green for Smith, but no issue, as she makes a clean pass into the current #3 spot.

Pollacheck has a no drama pass to the #2 spot.

Left Lane: Melissa Surber Runs 6.879/193.71, Now #1
Right Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 6.964/193.60, Now #5

Great pass for Surber into the new top spot.

Strong pass for Underdahl into #5 for now.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.872/194.49, Now #1
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 11.588/67.66, Now #12

Stoffer left hard and then sat up around third gear.

Johnson has the tune up and takes over the top spot for now.

Father and son at the line.

Two strong passes and Junior goes to the top. Dad is right behind in #2.

Right Lane: Cory Reed Runs 6.911/192.80, Now #5

Both bikes make clean passes to get some numbers to tune to.

Cory Reed's incremental times: 60ft-1.061 sec., 330ft-2.871, 660ft-4.408/159.42 mph, 1,000ft-5.753.

Left Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.927/195.48, Now #10
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 6.917/193.74, Now #7

Tonglet will be joining Savoie next year. A clean pass, but only #10.

Ellis is off his normal pass a little and misses the top half of the field.

LE Tonglet's incremental times: 60ft-1.083 sec., 330ft-2.911, 660ft-4.445/159.74 mph, 1,000ft-5.782.
Chip Ellis' incremental times: 60ft-1.065 sec., 330ft-2.875, 660ft-4.414/158.82 mph, 1,000ft-5.760.

Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 6.872/195.73, Now #4
Right Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.844/195.93, Now #1

Jim Underdahl is on the bump spot at 6.964.

Savoie is just three points behind Hines/Krawiec and needs these "Little Points". He powers off the line and moves to the top of the ladder for now.

Strong pass for Sampey into #4.

Angelle Sampey's incremental times: 60ft-1.072 sec., 330ft-2.865, 660ft-4.392/160.37 mph, 1,000ft-5.728.
Jerry Savoie's incremental times: 60ft-1.052 sec., 330ft-2.846, 660ft-4.368/160.75 mph, 1,000ft-5.701.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.886/194.66, Now #8
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.886/195.00, Now #7

They both are off the pace a little and run identical ET's. That is well off the top three and will make the Championship race all even for the three riders going into round two!

Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.094 sec., 330ft-2.890, 660ft-4.404/161.44 mph, 1,000ft-5.737.
Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.090 sec., 330ft-2.884, 660ft-4.405/160.88 mph, 1,000ft-5.740.

12:21 p.m. Jerry Savoie is number one at 6.844 and Scotty Pollacheck is on the bump spot at 6.919.
