ENNIS, Texas - Robert Hight sprinted to the provisional No. 1 qualifier in Funny Car on Friday at the 31st annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals. Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Jason Line (Pro Stock) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were also qualifying leaders in their respective categories at the 22nd event of 24 on the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule. The AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals is the fourth race of the six-race NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
No. 1 Funny Car qualifier Robert Hight drove his AAA Texas Chevy Camaro to a 3.839 second pass at 332.02 mph Hight raced to the qualifying lead with a track elapsed time record run during the second session of his sponsor's race. His time was the third quickest in NHRA Funny Car history.
No. 1 Top Fuel qualifier Antron Brown drove his Matco Tools Dragster to a 3.682 second pass at 330.55 mph. Brown, the Top Fuel points leader and reigning world champion, ran a track elapsed time record during the second session of qualifying.
No. 1 Pro Stock qualifier Jason Line drove his Summit Racng Equipment Chevy Camaro to a 6.568 drove his 210.34 mph. Line, the Pro Stock points leader, held on to the qualifying lead with his first session run.
No. 1 Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifier Andrew Hines rode his Screamin' Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson to a 6.812 second pass at 195.42 mph. Hines, the points leader and reigning world champion, maintained his qualifying lead with is first session run.
