ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 31st annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Todd Simpson Runs 9.592/55.47, Now #1

5:07 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.48 inches, adjusted altitude 3,181 feet, track temperature 106 degrees.

Simpson had a cylinder out at the hit, gets about 100 feet out and bangs the blower.

Left Lane: Brandon Welch Runs 9.012/67.72, Now #2
Right Lane: John Bojec Runs 4.231/221.82, Now #1

Welch rattles the tires and is off the throttle early. Bojec drifted toward the centerline, makes a quick move about 600 feet out and he has to back off the throttle.

Left Lane: Dave Richards Runs 8.605/81.58, Now #3
Right Lane: John Hale Runs 4.704/182.18, Now #2

Hale gets about 200 feet out and loses a cylinder on the right side. The car starts pushing to the right, he gets about 500 feet out and has to give up on the run. Richards had problems and was off the throttle very early in the run.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.035/266.16, Now #2
Right Lane: Chad Head Runs 3.957/322.42, Now #1

Pedregon put a cylinder out about 400 feet out and started drifting to the left. he gets very close to the wall near the end of the run and had to back off the throttle a little early. head went right down the groove with a decent pass and takes the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.961/321.96, Now #3
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 3.895/323.50, Now #1

Force goes right down the groove, sets the track ET record and takes the top spot for now. DeJoria makes a clean, straight pass and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.870/329.34, Now #1
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.919/322.19, Now #3

Hight makes an impressive pass, going right down the groove with the track ET and speed records and he takes the top spot for now. Wilkerson makes a good pass and gets in the show in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 3.873/329.02, Now #2
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 3.923/322.65, Now #5

Force makes a clean pass, drifts a little to the left, then gets close to the wall after he crosses the finish line. Worsham makes a clean, straight pass and gets in the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.896/330.23, Now #4
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.908/326.00, Now #5

Hagan moves a little to the right late in the run but he stays on the throttle and makes the first 330 MPH run in a Funny Car at this event. Beckman makes a full pull and gets in the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 3.909/297.75, Now #7
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.864/322.96, Now #1

Capps goes right down the groove, sets the track ET record and takes the top spot to end this session. Johnson was on a decent pass but was out of power a little before he crossed the centerline.
