Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Dodge NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Bruce Horner Runs 5.749/235.56, Now #1

Horner making his first National event appearance this season, his last race was here last year. He is straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Mike Lewis Runs 5.275/275.45, Now #1
Right Lane: Dan Dietrich Runs 5.755/230.57, Now #3

Lewis launched hard and kept it hooked up to make a great looking pass. His season's quickest and his career fastest. Mike Lewis' incremental times: 60ft-0.935 sec., 330ft-2.419, 660ft-3.526/226.20 mph, 1,000ft-4.466. Dietrich with a lot of engine smoke on the top end, but the word is the car is clean.

Left Lane: Tom Pickett Runs 5.728/244.21, Now #3
Right Lane: Mike Kosky Runs 5.418/250.88, Now #2

Pickett was straight down the groove to go to the number three spot. Kosky started mixing up cylinders just past half track and then the engine started eating itself up with flashes of flames. The word from the top end is there is oil on the top end.

While the Safety Safari was cleaning up the oil down it began to rain.

Left Lane: Wayne Morris Runs 6.029/183.69, Now #6
Right Lane: Jay Livingston Runs 6.507/245.81, Now #7

Weather conditions: air temperature 65 degrees, relative humidity 82 percent, barometer 29.54 inches, adjusted altitude 1,549 feet, track temperature 66 degrees.

This is a continuation from yesterday's session that was interrupted by rain.. Morris' car went silent on the top end. Livingston rattled the tires early and then got it to hook up.

Left Lane: Cody Perkins Runs 5.938/245.18, Now #6
Right Lane: Earl Nichols Jr. Runs 7.535/242.23, Now #9

Perkins was real loose around 330 feet, but got it to settle back down. Nichols smoked the tires right at the hit and pedaled it to get it to hook up.

Left Lane: Mike Burns Runs 6.012/244.25, Now #7
Right Lane: Brandon Greco Runs 7.960/166.17, Now #11

Burns with severe tire shake right at the hit and pedaled it a couple times to get it to settle down. Greco clicked it off early...

Left Lane: Karen Stalba Runs 5.488/248.39, Now #3
Right Lane: Tom Fox Jr. Runs 6.143/255.29, Now #10

Stalba launched hard and was on a great pass until right in the lights when it appeared to be hazing the tires. She has the quickest pass of the day to go to the number three spot. Karen Stalba's incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.484, 660ft-3.611/219.97 mph, 1,000ft-4.603. fox is straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 8.222/109.59, Now #15
Right Lane: Dan Page Runs 5.319/272.78, Now #2

Mercier with severe tire shake and pedaled it a couple times, but couldn't get it to hook up. Page with a great looking pass, straight down the groove. He goes to the number two spot. Dan Page's incremental times: 60ft-0.943 sec., 330ft-2.436, 660ft-3.556/224.43 mph, 1,000ft-4.503.

Left Lane: Richard Bourke Runs 5.458/266.69, Now #5
Right Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.302/275.73, Now #2

This was a good side-by-side drag race...Bourke with a good clean pass to go to the number five spot. Richard Bourke's incremental times: 60ft-0.986 sec., 330ft-2.513, 660ft-3.660/220.12 mph, 1,000ft-4.623. Fricke launched hard and keep it hitting on all eight to go to the number two spot. Jackie Fricke's incremental times: 60ft-0.950 sec., 330ft-2.453, 660ft-3.561/227.31 mph, 1,000ft-4.496.

Left Lane: Josh Hart Runs 6.951/219.69, Now #16
Right Lane: Mia Tedesco Runs 5.673/260.71, Now #7

Hart is up in smoke right at the hit and then is mixing up cylinder all the way down the 1320. He still gets in the show on the bubble. Tedesco with a good clean pass to get into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.334/272.23, Now #4
Right Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.343/273.77, Now #5

This is great side-by-side drag race to wrap up Top alcohol Dragster qualifying. Demke launched harr and kept it hooked up to go to the number four spot. McPhillips was right there with him. Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.948 sec., 330ft-2.403, 660ft-3.539/218.72 mph, 1,000ft-4.510.
Rich McPhillips' incremental times: 60ft-1.001 sec., 330ft-2.490, 660ft-3.592/226.89 mph, 1,000ft-4.531.

Mike Lewis holds on for the number one qualifying spot for the first time in his Top Alcohol Dragster career, this is his seventh race.
