MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Dodge NHRA Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run: Right Lane: John Hall Runs 7.013/188.75, Now #1 1:14 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 65 degrees, relative humidity 76 percent, barometer 29.59 inches, adjusted altitude 1,502 feet, track temperature 71 degrees. Hall had trouble getting his motorcycle started. It took a couple of
tries but he and his crew finally got the engine fired up. It didn't seem to have any effect on the way his bike performed in the
track as he went straight down the groove. Left Lane: Joey Gladstone Runs 7.439/187.13, Now #3 Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 7.081/188.04, Now #2 Gladstone's motorcycle was bucking and bouncing for the first couple hundred feet. He got it settled down to finish the run. Smith took her motorcycle straight down her lane. Left Lane: Melissa Surber Runs 6.873/191.76, Now #1 Right Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.975/185.33, Now #2 Both riders had clean, straight runs to take over the top spots in the qualifying order for now. Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.925/193.88, Now #2 Right Lane: Steve Johnson No Time, Now #7 Johnson started his motorcycle and then it shut itself off. He started again, did a burnout and shut the bike down before he could stage it because it was leaking oil onto the track at the starting line. Stoffer spun the rear tire getting off the starting line but stayed with it to move into the number two spot for now. There are 17 motorcycles here competing for 16 spots in the field, so Johnson has to be hoping the weather holds out so that he can get a second attempt to make the field later today. Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.901/191.13, Now #2 Right Lane: Cory Reed Runs 7.280/146.40, Now #7 It took about 10 minutes to clean up the oil from Steve Johnson's motorcycle. Smith and Reed were both going stright down the groove. Reed's motorcycle shut down before he reached the finish line. Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.175/194.91, Now #8 Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.880/193.02, Now #2 Both Arana's had clean runs down the groove. Arana Jr. moved into the second spot in the order with six riders still waiting for their first qualifying attempt. Left Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.828/195.39, Now #2 Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.811/191.29, Now #1 Krawiec and Tonglet took over the top two spots for now with a pair of good runs. Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.959/192.58, Now #7 Right Lane: Chip Ellis No Time, Now #14 Ellis' motorcycle shut down as soon as he let the clutch out. Savoie's ride looked okay but was a bit off the pace. If there is no second session because of weather, Ellis will be in the field because he was the 16th rider to take the tree. Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 9.986/81.35, Now #15 Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.784/196.22, Now #1 Sampey's bike slowed at mid track. Hines had a strong ride to take over the number one position. Neither Chip Ellis or Steve Johnson got an ET in this session.
