TOPEKA, Kan. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 28th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals:

Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer 28.95 inches, adjusted altitude 2,775 feet, track temperature 110 degrees.

This is the first time Jones and Hool have faced each other in eliminations. Hool goes red and Jones gets the easy win. Jones gets his first round win in only his second National event. Jones with his quickest pass of the weekend.Jeff Jones' incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.535, 660ft-3.735/207.72 mph, 1,000ft-4.756.

This is the first time Thompson and McLaws have faced each other in eliminations. They leave together with McLaws getting a few ticks advantage. McLaws makes a quick move toward the wall, but reels it in and runs his his quickest pass of the weekend in the losing effort. Thompson launched hard and was straight down the groove, just off his qualifying time for the win.

He will give up lane choice to Jones in the next round.
