TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 28th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 4.957/145.02, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 58 percent, barometer 28.85 inches, adjusted altitude 2,416 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

Novelli launched hard and was on a good pass, but then the engine went silent around 400 feet. Not sure, but it appeared to be a planned shut off.

Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 7.605/90.78, Now #2

Palmer launched into severe tire shake right the hit and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 7.449/95.05, Now #3
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.711/104.13, Now #2

Langdon with a severe tire shake and clicked it off. McMillen also with severe tire shake right at the hit and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 3.718/323.50, Now #1
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.768/321.27, Now #2

This was a great side-by-side drag race. Crampton launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number one spot. He is just a few ticks off the track E.T. record of 3.710 seconds. Richie Crampton's incremental times: 60ft-0.830 sec., 330ft-2.108, 660ft-2.979/291.19 mph. Schumacher was right there with him to go to then number two spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.140, 660ft-3.022/287.60 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.806/325.77, Now #4
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.797/324.20, Now #3

Another great side-by-side drag race with these two going to numbers three and four. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.156, 660ft-3.058/283.31 mph.
J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.166, 660ft-3.054/287.47 mph.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.709/329.91, Now #1
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.768/322.50, Now #3

Torrence launched hard and keep it hitting on all eight and hooked up to go to the number one spot. Torrence sets the track E.T. record and ties the track speed record. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.825 sec., 330ft-2.107, 660ft-2.978/291.82 mph. Force was right there with him to go to the number three spot. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.152, 660ft-3.024/290.07 mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.743/323.12, Now #4
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.713/328.70, Now #2

This is a great drag race to wrap up round one of Top Fuel. Brown goes to the number four spot as he was straight down the groove. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.837 sec., 330ft-2.126, 660ft-3.000/289.26 mph. Kalitta with a great pass to go to the number two spot. He was straight down the groove hitting on all eight. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.120, 660ft-2.983/293.92 mph.
