TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 28th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Lance Van Hauen Runs 5.867/249.16, Now #1
Right Lane: Mark Billington Runs 10.257/85.75, Now #2

Van Hauen making his season debut and hew is straight down the groove with a good clean pass. Lance Van Hauen's incremental times: 60ft-1.025 sec., 330ft-2.654, 660ft-3.902/198.88 mph, 1,000ft-4.965. Billington had tire shake and made a move toward the centerline before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Clint Thompson Runs 5.584/255.92, Now #1
Right Lane: Charles McLaws Runs 5.875/254.28, Now #3

Thompson launched hard and keep it hooked up until on the top end when it started to drift out of the groove toward the centerline. Clint Thompson's incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.516, 660ft-3.709/208.84 mph, 1,000ft-4.722.
McLaws with a clean pass to start the weekend. Charles McLaws' incremental times: 60ft-1.076 sec., 330ft-2.708, 660ft-3.942/202.03 mph, 1,000ft-4.990.

Left Lane: Steve Burck Runs 26.838/23.48, Now #6
Right Lane: Jeff Jones Runs 5.631/252.99, Now #2

Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 52 percent, barometer 28.85 inches, adjusted altitude 2,832 feet, track temperature 97 degrees.

Burck with severe tire shake and clicked it off. Jones in his second event and is straight down the groove with a nice pass, his career quickest and fastest pass. Jeff Jones' incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.528, 660ft-3.731/205.82 mph, 1,000ft-4.760.

Left Lane: Nancy Matter Runs 7.249/133.29, Now #6
Right Lane: Nick Januik Runs 5.495/267.11, Now #1

Matter with a lot of tire shake and she pedals it into more tire shake before she clicks it off. Januik launched hard and keep it hooked up and was straight down the groove to go to the number one spot. Januik with his career quickest and fastest pass. Nick Januik's incremental times: 60ft-0.954 sec., 330ft-2.472, 660ft-3.652/211.43 mph, 1,000ft-4.652.

Right Lane: Steve Gasparrelli Runs 5.595/259.16, Now #3

This was a great side-by-side drag race as they left together...they go to the number three and four spots. Jay Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.533, 660ft-3.733/206.99 mph, 1,000ft-4.748.
Steve Gasparrelli's incremental times: 60ft-0.961 sec., 330ft-2.503, 660ft-3.704/206.95 mph, 1,000ft-4.729.

Left Lane: Kris Hool Runs 5.639/261.32, Now #7
Right Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 5.583/264.91, Now #2

Hool with a clean pass, straight down the groove. Kris Hool's incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.547, 660ft-3.755/206.07 mph, 1,000ft-4.777. Gordon continues to make great passes this year as he launched hard and was straight down the groove to go to the number two spot. Doug Gordon's incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.536, 660ft-3.727/209.49 mph, 1,000ft-4.734.
