Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 4.269/213.87, Now #8; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.765/319.45, Now #1; Best prior run: 14.877/37.92, Was #13

Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 17 percent, barometer 28.80 inches, adjusted altitude 3,379 feet, track temperature 111 degrees.

Palmer making his first pass of the weekend and he clicks it off early. Brown launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.832 sec., 330ft-2.131, 660ft-3.015/285.95 mph.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.935/286.07, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.383/109.58, Was #13
Right Lane: Leah Pritchett Runs 3.859/314.31, Now #6; Best prior run: 10.533/76.37, Was #14

McMillen was on a good pass and then started mixing up cylinders on the top end and clicked it off early. Pritchett with a good clean pass, straight down the groove into the top half of the show. Leah Pritchett's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.179, 660ft-3.095/276.75 mph.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 6.093/113.26, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.057/111.77, Was #12
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 3.869/281.19, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.362/93.86, Was #14

Langdon is up in smoke by 300 feet and clicks it off. Buff was on a real nice pass until right in the lights when the engine went silent. Troy Buff's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.149, 660ft-3.065/274.11 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 6.933/87.39, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.091/227.69, Was #10
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 3.794/309.34, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.102/107.14, Was #14

Millican is up in smoke by 200 feet and he clicks it off. Connolly launched hard and made a great looking pass until right in the lights when it started mixing up cylinders and then the engine let go in the shut down area with a quick flash of fire. Connolly goes to the number three spot. Dave Connolly's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.147, 660ft-3.037/286.62 mph. Dave Connolly was charged with an oildown, #1 for the season. That will cost 5 points and $1K.

Left Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 8.792/86.97, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.865/302.14, Was #8
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.806/323.12, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.854/152.28, Was #13

Crampton is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and clicked it off. Todd with a good clean pass, straight down the groove to get into the top half of the show. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.837 sec., 330ft-2.168, 660ft-3.063/285.71 mph.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.878/256.36, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.812/322.50, Was #7
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.772/320.51, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.795/322.19, Was #4

Torrence was on a great looking pass until just past half track when the car started spinning the tires and he clicked it off. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.132, 660ft-3.024/273.05 mph. Schumacher with great looking pass to move up the ladder one spot to the number three spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.143, 660ft-3.026/287.60 mph.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 6.348/92.61, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.800/320.05, Was #5
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 5.544/125.18, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.771/323.12, Was #2

Force is up in smoke by 200 feet and clicked it off. Kalitta made it to around 300 feet when he was up in smoke and clicked it off. That wraps up day one of qualifying.
