Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #1

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Leah Pritchett Runs 10.533/76.37, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 19 percent, barometer 28.84 inches, adjusted altitude 3,073 feet, track temperature 118 degrees.

Pritchett hiked the front end and was up in smoke as soon as she hit the throttle and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 6.362/93.86, Now #2
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 6.057/111.77, Now #1

Buff is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off. Langdon was up in smoke by 100 feet and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.102/107.14, Now #3
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.800/320.05, Now #1

Connolly is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off. He is coasting down track and then has a big puff of smoke right in the lights. The word from the top end is it is clean. Force launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number one spot with the first clean pass. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.849 sec., 330ft-2.159, 660ft-3.048/285.17 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.795/322.19, Now #1
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.383/109.58, Now #6

Schumacher launched hard and was straight down the groove to go to the number one spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.150, 660ft-3.048/284.27 mph. McMillen drops a cylinder early and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 14.877/37.92, Now #9
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.091/227.69, Now #3

Brown is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off. Millican was on a good pass until it threw the blower belt off around 800 feet and the engine goes silent.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.854/152.28, Now #5
Right Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 3.865/302.14, Now #3

Todd was mixing up cylinders right at the hit and clicked off before half track. Crampton was on a nice pass until it started to drop cylinders in the lights. Richie Crampton's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.150, 660ft-3.077/272.67 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.771/323.12, Now #1
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.812/322.50, Now #4

This was a real nice side-by-side drag race to wrap up round one of qualifying. Kalitta launched hard and was straight down the groove to go to the number one spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.148, 660ft-3.031/289.07 mph. Torrence with a real nice pass to go to the number four spot. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.835 sec., 330ft-2.158, 660ft-3.064/283.13 mph.
