POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel Harley at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 56th annual Circle K NHRA Winternationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Kevin Boyer Runs 9.399/92.74, Now #1

2:25 p.m. The two-wheel thrill rides are here and looking for full passes, with the front wheel in the air and the bike and rider balanced on the rear tire and the wheelie bars.

Boyer's engine went sour quickly.

Left Lane: Charles Pelrine Runs 10.608/91.52, Now #3
Right Lane: Tony Ruggiero Runs 7.672/198.79, Now #1

Ruggerio smoked the tire hard, wrestled the bike back and forth looking for traction and found it, with a strong run on the top half. Pelrine struggled and coasted through.

Left Lane: Ron Gledhill Runs 7.784/127.34, Now #3
Right Lane: Julian Seaman Runs 7.957/182.72, Now #4

Seaman struggled early, then got it hooked up. Gledhill had a good first half, then slowed on the top end.

Left Lane: Mike Pelrine Runs 11.332/69.67, Now #7
Right Lane: Len Darnell No Time, Now #8

Darnell stalled on the launch and coasted to a stop 400 feet out. Pelrine's engine sounded sour from the start
