Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steve Faria Runs 11.774/69.87, Now #18; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jenna Haddock No Time, Now #19; No Prior Run

Faria is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle and clicks it off. Haddock had a fuel leak and the team attempted to get it fixed, but was shut off.

Right Lane: Shawn Reed Runs 8.673/80.50, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.444/88.27, Was #17

Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 28.83 inches, adjusted altitude 2,564 feet, track temperature 75 degrees.

Reed starts to lose traction right at the hit and clicked it off.


Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.758/324.90, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.261/103.71, Was #14
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.895/101.62, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.949/100.31, Was #16

Brown launched hard and was straight down the groove with the header flames shooting high over the rear wing all the way down the track. He goes to the number one spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.834 sec., 330ft-2.132, 660ft-3.017/287.35 mph. McMillen is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 7.360/91.79, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.603/114.77, Was #14
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 8.095/87.15, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.714/88.07, Was #15

torrence was up in smoke early and clicked it off. McClenathan was up in smoke right off the starting line and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 3.829/313.51, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.097/136.41, Was #13
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.774/326.56, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.936/146.34, Was #12

This was a good side-by-side drag race. buff launched with the front end in the air and keep it hooked up to go to the number eight spot. Troy Buff's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.153, 660ft-3.059/277.54 mph. Langdon with a great pass as he keep it hitting on all eight to go to the number three spot. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.141, 660ft-3.032/286.38 mph.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.259/194.18, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.143/210.05, Was #11
Right Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 4.866/147.20, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.633/160.44, Was #13

Lucas started to smoke the tires just past half track and clicked it off and Crampton started to lose traction before half track and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 4.102/279.09, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.015/228.19, Was #10
Right Lane: Billy Torrence Runs 3.726/331.61, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.258/197.33, Was #12

force started to lose traction around half track and pedaled it and never got it to hook back up. Torrence launched hard and keep it hitting on all eight with header flames shooting high over the rear wing to go to the number one spot. Torrence runs his career quickest and fastest pass. Billy Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.126, 660ft-2.998/291.70 mph.

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 3.764/327.03, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.791/327.03, Was #7
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.846/273.77, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.946/270.43, Was #10

Connolly with a great looking pass, straight down the groove to go to the number three spot. Dave Connolly's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.141, 660ft-3.025/286.92 mph. todd was on a good looking pass until the engine went away on the top end. He still improves, but will stay in the number 10 spot. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.152, 660ft-3.044/285.29 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.390/177.28, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.775/323.89, Was #6
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.771/319.82, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.801/320.20, Was #8

Millican was on a great looking pass until it started to overpower the track. Kalitta with a real nice pass to get into the top half of the show. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.843 sec., 330ft-2.147, 660ft-3.025/288.46 mph.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.737/327.19, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.766/324.67, Was #4
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.745/324.59, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.788/324.36, Was #8

Dixon launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number two spot with a great looking pass. Schumacher was right there with him to go to the number three spot. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.835 sec., 330ft-2.135, 660ft-3.006/292.14 mph.
Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.832 sec., 330ft-2.115, 660ft-3.001/286.01 mph.
