POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Melissa Surber Runs 18.068/41.90, Now #27; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Eddie Reed Runs 7.229/188.54, Now #24; No Prior Run

3:23 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 19 percent, barometer 28.82 inches, adjusted altitude 2,881 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

Angie Smith is on the bump spot at 6.919.

Surber's bike wouldn't start in session one and sounded to be on one cylinder at the green.

Reed didn't make an attempt in session one and is well off the pace for qualifying this time.

Eddie Reed's incremental times: 60ft-1.291 sec., 330ft-3.123, 660ft-4.680/156.77 mph, 1,000ft-6.048.


Left Lane: Lance Bonham Runs 7.527/159.19, Now #26; Best prior run: 7.368/183.92, Was #25
Right Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 6.962/194.80, Now #17; Best prior run: 21.260/30.44, Was #28

Camarena gets a full pass this time, but misses the field by a bunch.

Bonham is sitting up in the saddle early.

Freddie Camarena's incremental times: 60ft-1.103 sec., 330ft-2.917, 660ft-4.461/158.39 mph, 1,000ft-5.810.

Left Lane: Luke Crowley Runs 7.068/193.24, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.027/193.27, Was #22
Right Lane: Bill Burkhart Runs 10.432/86.89, Now #27; Best prior run: 7.459/179.25, Was #27

Burkhart is way loose off the line and has to lift.

Crowley slows from session one.

Luke Crowley's incremental times: 60ft-1.161 sec., 330ft-3.004, 660ft-4.555/157.95 mph, 1,000ft-5.908.

Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 6.985/190.70, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.011/192.11, Was #21
Right Lane: Rhett Lougheed Runs 7.151/186.59, Now #24; Best prior run: 7.138/187.94, Was #24

DeSantis gets the bike into the sixes, but it only good enough for #19.

Lougheed slows a bit to stay #24.

Joe DeSantis' incremental times: 60ft-1.094 sec., 330ft-2.899, 660ft-4.448/157.23 mph, 1,000ft-5.812.
Rhett Lougheed's incremental times: 60ft-1.124 sec., 330ft-2.988, 660ft-4.571/154.49 mph, 1,000ft-5.957.

Left Lane: Kalle Lyren Runs 14.356/46.57, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.983/191.02, Was #18
Right Lane: Robert Karlsson Runs 7.021/191.95, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.109/189.66, Was #23

Lyren may have lost a chain and is done. "Stuff" is flying off the bike.

Karlsson makes a better pass picking up a spot on the ladder, but can't get the bike stopped. He is hard into the sand and lays the bike over and slides to a stop.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 6.970/193.24, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.961/194.55, Was #16
Right Lane: Katie Sullivan No Time, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.998/190.22, Was #21

3:38 p.m. Back to qualifying. Angie Smith is still on the bump spot at 6.919.

Sullivan's Suzuki rolls to a stop after spinning the slick hard at the green.

Underdahl doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.011/190.06, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.951/190.83, Was #13
Right Lane: Redell Harris Runs 6.995/190.57, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.994/189.15, Was #20

Berry leaves hard and then slows at mid track.

Harris runs close to his earlier times.

Mike Berry's incremental times: 60ft-1.066 sec., 330ft-2.895, 660ft-4.461/156.08 mph, 1,000ft-5.833.
Redell Harris' incremental times: 60ft-1.099 sec., 330ft-2.917, 660ft-4.459/158.15 mph, 1,000ft-5.821.

Left Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.931/190.32, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.919/192.14, Was #12
Right Lane: Shawn Gann No Time, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.960/192.41, Was #15

Gann doesn't make the pass and Smith doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.922/192.74, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.917/193.88, Was #11
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.926/195.25, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.952/193.46, Was #14

Arana is one of the few to improve this session, but still misses the top twelve.

Steve Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.071 sec., 330ft-2.873, 660ft-4.407/159.27 mph, 1,000ft-5.759.
Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.088 sec., 330ft-2.902, 660ft-4.435/159.53 mph, 1,000ft-5.776.

Left Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.941/191.32, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.915/192.28, Was #9
Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.833/197.57, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.916/196.79, Was #10

Arana has been struggling lately, but finds the handle this time and powers right on down the track and into the new number one position.

Ray slows just a little and gets pushed back a spot to #10.

Michael Ray's incremental times: 60ft-1.078 sec., 330ft-2.890, 660ft-4.427/158.71 mph, 1,000ft-5.777.
Hector Arana Jr's incremental times: 60ft-1.056 sec., 330ft-2.849, 660ft-4.369/160.96 mph, 1,000ft-5.697.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.837/195.73, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.887/194.88, Was #9
Right Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.911/193.93, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.878/194.88, Was #7

Great pass for Hines and he moves seven spots up to #2 on a strong pass.

That pushes Pollacheck back a spot.

Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.056 sec., 330ft-2.840, 660ft-4.362/160.59 mph, 1,000ft-5.694.
Scotty Pollacheck's incremental times: 60ft-1.068 sec., 330ft-2.880, 660ft-4.412/159.57 mph, 1,000ft-5.755.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.858/195.99, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.878/194.88, Was #9
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.853/195.19, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.868/196.47, Was #7

Two great side by side runs and both bikes move up the ladder into the new #4 and #5 spots.

LE Tonglet's incremental times: 60ft-1.048 sec., 330ft-2.839, 660ft-4.365/160.21 mph, 1,000ft-5.703.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.823/196.36, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.867/190.65, Was #8
Right Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.836/196.67, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.867/196.02, Was #7

Stoffer shows the boys how and powers up to the new top spot.

Great pass for Savoie too and the new #3 spot.

Karen Stoffer's incremental times: 60ft-1.061 sec., 330ft-2.844, 660ft-4.360/161.61 mph, 1,000ft-5.685.
Jerry Savoie's incremental times: 60ft-1.063 sec., 330ft-2.856, 660ft-4.373/161.27 mph, 1,000ft-5.700.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 6.830/196.42, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.852/196.44, Was #5
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.855/195.90, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.864/195.68, Was #8

...and the hits keep coming.

Ellis gets three spots on the ladder to the new #2 spot. Smith moves up a spot too to #7.

Matt Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.070 sec., 330ft-2.859, 660ft-4.380/160.94 mph, 1,000ft-5.710.

3:52 p.m. Karen Stoffer is number one at 6.823 and Angie Smith is on the bump spot at 6.919.
