Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Fred Hanssen Runs 6.139/162.65, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 20 percent, barometer 28.87 inches, adjusted altitude 2,521 feet, track temperature 90 degrees.

Hansen with a lot of tire shake and pedals it and the around half track the engine lets go with a big boom.


Left Lane: David Sheetz Runs 5.556/246.93, Now #1
Right Lane: Monty Bugeja Runs 11.745/70.55, Now #3

Sheetz with a nice pass to start the weekend...David Sheetz's incremental times: 60ft-0.948 sec., 330ft-2.520, 660ft-3.688/214.62 mph, 1,000ft-4.683. Bugeja making his national event debut...with a lot of tire and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Ross Stickler Runs 5.395/264.75, Now #2
Right Lane: Don St. Arnaud Runs 5.209/284.45, Now #1

Stricker with a nice pass, his quickest of the season and a career fastest pass. Ross Stickler's incremental times: 60ft-0.911 sec., 330ft-2.383, 660ft-3.549/211.69 mph, 1,000ft-4.548. St.Arnaud with a great pass even though it appeared he was out of the groove and hazing the tires all the way down the track, but still runs his career quickest pass. He has big top end speed and this is the third fastest in the history of Top Alcohol Dragster and he now owns three of the top four fastest passes. Don St. Arnaud's incremental times: 60ft-0.949 sec., 330ft-2.403, 660ft-3.499/228.19 mph, 1,000ft-4.421.

Left Lane: Randy Eakins Runs 5.489/258.42, Now #3
Right Lane: Derik Milanesio Runs 5.577/252.47, Now #5

Eakins with his season fastest pass. Randy Eakins' incremental times: 60ft-0.967 sec., 330ft-2.493, 660ft-3.644/216.45 mph, 1,000ft-4.633. Milanesio was mixing up cylinders from half track on. Derik Milanesio's incremental times: 60ft-0.948 sec., 330ft-2.480, 660ft-3.667/207.91 mph, 1,000ft-4.693.

Left Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 12.873/87.14, Now #9
Right Lane: Mark Taliaferro Runs 11.397/97.40, Now #7

Mercier is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle. Taliaferro is up in smoke by 100 feet.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 5.850/249.07, Now #7
Right Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.414/265.64, Now #3

Finke is dropping a lot of cylinders right at the hit and the right side cleans up but the left side was still pumping a lot of raw fuel all the way down the track. Grisel with a good clean pass.

Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.354/258.91, Now #2
Right Lane: Lee Callaway No Time, Now #13

Callaway's chute came out on the burnout and he is shutoff. Fricke launched hard and was straight down the groove with the nice pass to go to the number two spot. Jackie Fricke's incremental times: 60ft-0.942 sec., 330ft-2.435, 660ft-3.552/223.54 mph, 1,000ft-4.508.

Left Lane: Cameron Ferre Runs 5.625/260.26, Now #9
Right Lane: Johnny Ahten Runs 5.338/265.48, Now #2

Ferre was dropping cylinders right from the start and never get them to pick up. Ahten was dropping cylinders from half track on, but still goes to the number two spot. Johnny Ahten's incremental times: 60ft-0.929 sec., 330ft-2.422, 660ft-3.538/223.43 mph, 1,000ft-4.499.

Left Lane: Ashley Sanford Runs 5.474/259.56, Now #6
Right Lane: Tripp Tatum Runs 5.486/223.50, Now #7

Sanford was on a good pass until around half track when it started dropping a lot of cylinders. She still gets into the top half of the show. Ashley Sanford's incremental times: 60ft-0.953 sec., 330ft-2.475, 660ft-3.627/212.29 mph, 1,000ft-4.619. Tatum with a very similar run, real nice early and then started dropping cylinders. Tripp Tatum's incremental times: 60ft-0.953 sec., 330ft-2.456, 660ft-3.579/221.92 mph, 1,000ft-4.549.

Left Lane: Megan McKernan Runs 5.234/276.92, Now #2
Right Lane: Bill Litton Runs 15.257/53.09, Now #18

McKeranan launched hard and keep it hooked up to make a great pass to go to the number two spot. She runs her career fastest pass. Megan McKernan's incremental times: 60ft-0.932 sec., 330ft-2.401, 660ft-3.498/228.31 mph, 1,000ft-4.430. Litton is up in smoke right at the hit.

Left Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.434/270.75, Now #8
Right Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.244/269.24, Now #3

Cowie with a real nice pass until right in the lights when the engine let go with a quick fireball. He still gets into the top half of the show. Shawn Cowie's incremental times: 60ft-0.928 sec., 330ft-2.466, 660ft-3.630/215.34 mph, 1,000ft-4.607. Bateman the most recent winner National event trail launched hard and keep it hooked up and hitting on all eight to go to the number three spot. Garrett Bateman's incremental times: 60ft-0.925 sec., 330ft-2.374, 660ft-3.473/226.77 mph, 1,000ft-4.419.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.476/268.44, Now #11
Right Lane: Michael Manners Runs 5.287/273.83, Now #4

Shields with a nice pass to start the weekend. Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.955 sec., 330ft-2.526, 660ft-3.677/218.97 mph, 1,000ft-4.645. Manners keep it hitting on all eight and was straight down the groove to go the number four spot. Michael Manners' incremental times: 60ft-0.932 sec., 330ft-2.408, 660ft-3.524/223.69 mph, 1,000ft-4.472.

Left Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.469/273.88, Now #11
Right Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.258/270.97, Now #4

The two battling for the world Championship matched up. Demke is real loose right at the hit and is using up the all of his lane but stays with it. Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.936 sec., 330ft-2.525, 660ft-3.680/216.65 mph, 1,000ft-4.649. Severance launched hard and keep it hooked up and straight down the groove to go to the number four spot. Joey Severance's incremental times: 60ft-0.890 sec., 330ft-2.334, 660ft-3.461/219.47 mph, 1,000ft-4.431.
