ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 30th annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Todd Simpson Runs 6.239/107.00, Now #1
Right Lane: Dave Richards Runs 7.491/89.42, Now #2

3:42 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 90 degrees, relative humidity 35 percent, barometer 29.59 inches, adjusted altitude 3,021 feet, track temperature 115 degrees.

Simpson gets about 250 feet out and strikes the tires. he pedals once, loses traction again, then gives up on the run. Richards gets to almost the same spor, goes up in smoke and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Brian Stewart Runs 4.505/197.59, Now #1
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.749/196.16, Now #2

Haddock had a hole out at the hit, gets about 700 feet out and gives up on the run. Stewart was doing a little better, then gets about 800 feet out and the car noses over.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.202/273.50, Now #1
Right Lane: John Hale No Time, Now #6

Hale hits the throttle, bangs the blower and the chutes come out ending his run. Pedregon goes right down the groove with the first full pass of the round so far.

Left Lane: Chad Head Runs 4.074/300.53, Now #2
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.043/311.77, Now #1

Force goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the round so far to take the top spot for now. head was right behind with a good pass to move into the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.057/314.24, Now #2
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.198/297.48, Now #4

Two more good passes, Hight goes right down the groove and gets in the show right behind Force. DeJoria makes a clean pass but was falling behind all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.058/292.20, Now #3
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.101/305.01, Now #5

Wilkerson was on a really good pass but the car nosed over just before he crossed the finish line. Pedregon keeps the candles lit all the way through the run and gets in the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.053/313.37, Now #3
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.050/311.05, Now #2

A good side-by-side, Force and Capps were glued together all the way through the run. Capps jumped out in front early, Force made up a little ground but gets in right behind Capps in the order.

Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.028/314.97, Now #1
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.058/315.12, Now #6

Johnson goes right down the groove and sets the track ET record to take the top spot for now. Hagan came on strong on the top end and set the track speed record.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.000/313.29, Now #1
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.041/312.28, Now #3

Beckman goes right down the groove with an impressive pass, setting the track ET record and just missing the first three second run at this track and takes the top spot to end this session. Worsham makes a clean pass but was falling behind all the way through the run but gets in the third spot.
