ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 30th annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed this round, amount over/under index this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time, speed & over/under Index, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Duane Robison Runs 7.406/185.00/-0.454, Now #14; C/A Index: 7.86, Prior Best: 8.011/131.32/0.151, Was #20
Right Lane: Ray Goodman Runs 7.491/174.91/-0.329, Now #19; A/EA Index: 7.82, Prior Best: 7.524/175.59/-0.296, Was #18

11:03 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 42 percent, barometer 29.69 inches, adjusted altitude 2,203 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

Robison makes a full pass this time and moves up to the 14th spot for now.

Forrester improves a little but not enough to move in the order. Warren slows from his attempt yesterday.

Left Lane: Dennis Smiley Runs 7.153/184.30/-0.297, Now #20; B/ED Index: 7.45, No Prior Run
Right Lane: Don Alexander Runs 14.150/51.21/6.320, Now #23; C/ED Index: 7.83, Prior Best: 15.405/76.42/7.575, Was #22

Alexander has problems again and is off the throttle early. Smiley gets in the 20th spot for now.

Left Lane: Clark Smiley No Time, Now #6; BB/A Index: 7.86, Prior Best: 7.270/188.65/-0.590, Was #5
Right Lane: Clint Sallee Runs 6.582/205.60/-0.598, Now #5; B/D Index: 7.18, Prior Best: 6.644/206.01/-0.536, Was #8

Smiley had problems and did not make it to the finish stripe. Sallee improves and moves up to the fifth spot.

Left Lane: Mitch Withers Runs 10.822/107.32/3.752, Now #18; A/A Index: 7.07, Prior Best: 6.740/205.57/-0.330, Was #18

Withers had traction problems and pedaled two or three times before giving up on the run. Neff is off the throttle about 1000 feet out.

Maris makes a big improvement and moves up to the fourth spot for now. Hall slows from his earlier attempt.

Massel had problems and did not make a pass. Compton improves and moves up a few spots.

Williams has problems and is off the throttle early. Thomas is off the throttle about 1000 feet out.

Self improves an moves up to the sixth spot for now, Mawhee to the ninth spot.

Benham's car struggles off the line, then starts putting out a lot of smoke about 700 feet out. Bourgeois gets about 1000 feet out and backs off the throttle.

Joly improves and moves up to the ninth spot to end this session.
