CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Eighth annual NHRA Carolina Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Bill Naves Runs 6.237/225.11, Now #2
Right Lane: Joshua Haskett Runs 6.189/192.44, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 57 percent, barometer 29.38 inches, adjusted altitude 2,527 feet, track temperature 92 degrees.

Naves with his season quickest and fastest pass to start the weekend. Haskett clicked it off early...

Right Lane: Tyler Scott Runs 5.726/238.89, Now #1

Rogers left before the tree was activated...Scott with a nice pass, his career best.

Left Lane: Ulf Leanders Runs 5.759/259.81, Now #2
Right Lane: Marie Ferriolo Runs 5.848/242.84, Now #3

Leanders with a clean pass to start the weekend. Ferriolo was straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Andy Bohl Runs 8.248/196.24, Now #7
Right Lane: DJ Cox Jr. Runs 5.627/256.80, Now #1

Bohl with a lot of tire shake right at the hit and pedaled it. cox was using up all his lane, but still goes to the top of the list. DJ Cox Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.976 sec., 330ft-2.512, 660ft-3.715/205.69 mph, 1,000ft-4.750.

Left Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 5.845/264.44, Now #5
Right Lane: Matt Gill Runs 5.667/257.83, Now #2

Ferro was straight down the groove to get into the top half of the show. Gill with good looking pass to go to the number two spot.

Right Lane: John Lombardo Jr. Runs 5.507/269.46, Now #1

this was a good looking side-by-side drag race, as these two go to the e list. Dan Pomponio's incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.510, 660ft-3.719/205.47 mph, 1,000ft-4.753.
John Lombardo Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.972 sec., 330ft-2.510, 660ft-3.679/212.76 mph, 1,000ft-4.672.

Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.640/236.30, Now #4

Hool with a nice pass, straight down the groove to get into the top of the field. Kris Hool's incremental times: 60ft-0.969 sec., 330ft-2.543, 660ft-3.762/204.45 mph, 1,000ft-4.796. Payne with a big puff of smoke right in the lights, but still a real nice pass to go to the number four spot. Jay Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.958 sec., 330ft-2.492, 660ft-3.694/206.42 mph, 1,000ft-4.730.

Right Lane: Todd Veney Runs 5.539/262.90, Now #2

Gordon with violent tire shake right at the hit and clicked it off. Veney launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number two spot. Todd Veney's incremental times: 60ft-0.963 sec., 330ft-2.488, 660ft-3.674/209.26 mph, 1,000ft-4.685.

Steve Harker's incremental times: 60ft-0.967 sec., 330ft-2.486, 660ft-3.661/211.79 mph, 1,000ft-4.659.
