Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Final Session

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 50th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 4.220/275.34, Now #19; Best prior run: 8.884/73.99, Was #20

Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 61 percent, barometer 28.88 inches, adjusted altitude 2,481 feet, track temperature 75 degrees.

Chrisman with a nice looking pass until right in the lights when it bangs the blower and pitches the belt. Then there is huge fireball and he gets it stopped safely and is out of the car.


Left Lane: Jenna Haddock Runs 4.440/216.65, Now #21; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.917/306.26, Now #17; Best prior run: 8.277/74.44, Was #20

Haddock shook right at the hit and pedaled it and she will not get in the show. Right in the lights a body panel came flying off of her car. Force launched hard and was straight down the groove, but she will not get in the show. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.197, 660ft-3.130/272.23 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 5.918/84.03, Now #15; Best prior run: 3.825/312.13, Was #15
Right Lane: Steve Faria Runs 4.064/286.38, Now #19; Best prior run: 4.096/241.67, Was #19

Millican starts mixing up cylinders early and then the engine lets go with a big fireball. Faria was burning up head gasket in the lights and he will not get in the show.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.795/322.11, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.790/323.97, Was #13
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.836/320.89, Now #17; Best prior run: 3.961/273.11, Was #18

Torrence is just a few ticks off his qualifying number with another good pass and will stay number 13 for now. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.145, 660ft-3.045/282.66 mph. McMillen launched hard and was straight down the groove and just misses getting in the show. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.163, 660ft-3.076/277.83 mph.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.738/323.35, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.775/306.67, Was #12
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 8.942/76.83, Now #16; Best prior run: 3.834/313.00, Was #16

Lucas launched hard and keep it hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.118, 660ft-2.996/288.70 mph. Buff started to lose traction right at the hit and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 9.025/80.25, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.768/323.50, Was #10
Right Lane: Billy Torrence Runs 3.827/295.98, Now #14; Best prior run: 3.799/319.98, Was #14

Langdon was up in smoke right off the starting line and clicked it off. Torrence with another good looking pass, but will not improve and will start Sunday from the number 14 spot. Billy Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.829 sec., 330ft-2.132, 660ft-3.028/279.79 mph.

Left Lane: Dom Lagana Runs 10.447/73.11, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.763/322.42, Was #9
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.785/308.43, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.774/319.29, Was #12

Lagana was up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off. Vandergriff was on a good pass until just past half track when the engine starts eating itself and then lets go with a quick flash of flames.

Left Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 3.711/316.30, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.763/325.45, Was #8
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.761/321.27, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.770/322.11, Was #11

Crampton launched hard and keep it hitting on all eight and hooked up with the header flames shooting high over the rear wing to go to the number one spot. Crampton with his career quickest pass to set the track E.T. record here. That is also the second quickest pass in NHRA history. Richie Crampton's incremental times: 60ft-0.826 sec., 330ft-2.098, 660ft-2.971/291.32 mph. Schumacher with a great looking pass to move up the ladder two spots and closer to his eighth Top Fuel Championship. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.830 sec., 330ft-2.120, 660ft-3.007/283.13 mph.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.767/324.05, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.760/327.03, Was #7
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.745/325.06, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.761/322.34, Was #8

Dixon with another great looking pass and just a few ticks off his qualifying E.T., but gets bumped back one spot by Todd. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.837 sec., 330ft-2.137, 660ft-3.021/285.95 mph. Todd with his quickest pass of the weekend and goes to the number four spot. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.835 sec., 330ft-2.119, 660ft-3.003/286.07 mph.

Left Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 10.953/46.25, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.751/325.85, Was #6
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.720/319.07, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.757/322.58, Was #7

alBalooshi is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off. Brown launches hard and keeps it hooked up to make the seventh quickest pass in the history of NHRA. He goes to the number two spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.826 sec., 330ft-2.102, 660ft-2.973/288.21 mph.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 8.809/76.53, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.748/326.48, Was #6
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 6.761/99.57, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.745/328.30, Was #4

Massey started to lose traction right at the hit and clicked it off and Massey will not get any points this session and that means Schumacher wins his eighth Top Fuel Championship. Kalitta lose traction early and clicks it off.
