Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #3

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 50th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steve Faria Runs 4.096/241.67, Now #13; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 52 percent, barometer 28.90 inches, adjusted altitude 2,545 feet, track temperature 84 degrees.

Faria was on a good looking pass until just pass half track when the car started mixing up cylinders and he clicked it off.


Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.774/319.29, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.794/321.42, Was #9
Right Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 3.763/325.45, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.807/319.82, Was #11

This was a great side-by-side drag race...Vandergriff launched hard and keep it hooked up to make his quickest pass of the weekend to move into the top half of the show. Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.834 sec., 330ft-2.122, 660ft-3.015/280.84 mph. Crampton with a great looking pass as he keep it hitting on all eight all the way down the track to go to the number two spot. Richie Crampton's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.133, 660ft-3.022/286.25 mph.

Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 3.834/313.00, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jenna Haddock No Time, Now #20; No Prior Run

Buff with his quickest pass of the weekend to go to the number 13 spot. Troy Buff's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.147, 660ft-3.062/276.58 mph. Haddock started to stage the car and the car just rolled through the beams, she got the car stopped out about 100 feet.

Left Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 8.884/73.99, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.768/323.50, Now #3; No Prior Run

Chrisman with a lot of tire shake right at the hit and clicked it off. Langdon with a great looking pass, straight down the groove to go to the number three spot. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.835 sec., 330ft-2.131, 660ft-3.022/284.51 mph.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 8.277/74.44, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.775/306.67, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.819/272.34, Was #13

Force with a lot of tire shake right at the hit and made a move toward the centerline before she clicked it off. Lucas launched hard and was on a great pass until right in the lights when the engine let go with a quick flash of flames and a lot of engine smoke. He still goes to the top half of the show. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.128, 660ft-3.008/287.53 mph.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.961/273.11, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Dom Lagana Runs 3.763/322.42, Now #3; No Prior Run

McMillen with a bang and pop and quick flash of flame, but he stayed with it to get in the show. Lagana launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number three spot with his career quickest and fastest pass. Dom Lagana's incremental times: 60ft-0.827 sec., 330ft-2.126, 660ft-3.015/283.85 mph.

Left Lane: Billy Torrence Runs 3.799/319.98, Now #14; Best prior run: 3.805/321.12, Was #14
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.825/312.13, Now #15; No Prior Run

Torrence was on a great looking pass and then right in the lights the car made quick move toward the centerline. He still makes his quickest of the weekend and stays in the number 14 spot. Billy Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.833 sec., 330ft-2.146, 660ft-3.048/282.42 mph. Millican was on a good looking pass and then right in the lights the engine let go, but he still makes his quickest pass of the weekend to get in the show. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.151, 660ft-3.056/278.81 mph. Troy Buff is on the bump spot at 3.834 and that is the quickest bump spot in Top Fuel history.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.761/322.34, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.790/322.81, Was #13
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 6.176/97.66, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.790/323.97, Was #12

Todd launched hard and keep the big Goodyears hooked up to go to the number two spot. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.127, 660ft-3.013/284.99 mph. torrence is up in smoke early and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.757/322.58, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.773/318.62, Was #8
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.760/327.03, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.786/324.83, Was #12

This was a great side-by-side drag race as these two got to the number two and three spot with a couple great passes. Brown was straight down the groove to go to the number two spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.830 sec., 330ft-2.123, 660ft-3.010/285.53 mph. Dixon launched hard and keep it hitting all the way down the track with his career quickest and fastest pass to go to the number three spot. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.837 sec., 330ft-2.136, 660ft-3.022/287.60 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 6.891/90.39, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.770/322.11, Was #9
Right Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.751/325.85, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.776/322.58, Was #12

Schumacher shakes the tires and clicks it off by 300 feet and coast on through the 1000 feet. alBalooshi launched hard keep it hitting on all eight and goes straight to the number one spot. He runs his career best speed here. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.835 sec., 330ft-2.133, 660ft-3.013/288.46 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.745/328.30, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.754/326.87, Was #2
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.748/326.48, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.770/324.67, Was #9

This was a great side-by-side drag race as these two go back to the top of the list. Kalitta with a great looking pass, straight down the groove into the top spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.835 sec., 330ft-2.129, 660ft-3.009/288.03 mph. Massey was right there with him to go back to the number two spot. Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.831 sec., 330ft-2.119, 660ft-3.009/285.89 mph.
