POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 50th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.869/195.17, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.863/194.88, Was #4
Right Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.156/182.16, Now #13; No Prior Run

11:53 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 56 percent, barometer 28.94 inches, adjusted altitude 2,410 feet, track temperature 92 degrees.

This is Smith's last race as National Champion and he is looking to move up the ladder. The weather isn't as good as last night though.

Smith picks up a little ET to stay #4.

Harris was last on the ladder coming into today and finally gets a full pass. His time isn't likely to hold for long.

Both bikes make clean passes, but can't improve.

Right Lane: Bill Burkhart Runs 7.490/181.13, Now #15; No Prior Run

Laseur continues to improve and gets into the field for now.

Burkhart slows from his prior best yesterday.

Right Lane: Lance Bonham Runs 7.344/181.62, Now #16; No Prior Run

Bonham picks up some speed and ET to set the bump spot.

Lougheed slows from yesterday's best.

Both bikes are close to yesterday's times, but can't improve.

Right Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 6.974/194.63, Now #13; No Prior Run

Redell Harris is on the bump spot at 7.156.

Ray's bike has the back end step out at the green and he only goes a couple of feet. He pushes the bike back behind the line.

Camarena picks up some ET and speed from yesterday and moves into the field in #13.

Freddie Camarena's incremental times: 60ft-1.087 sec., 330ft-2.918, 660ft-4.468/157.87 mph, 1,000ft-5.818.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.962/190.89, Now #12; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 7.002/191.02, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.966/192.60, Was #12

Gert-Jen Laseur is on the bump spot at 7.114.

Gann improves too and takes over the number twelve spot. That pushes a slowing Underdahl down a spot.

Shawn Gann's incremental times: 60ft-1.063 sec., 330ft-2.882, 660ft-4.431/157.89 mph, 1,000ft-5.791.
Jim Underdahl's incremental times: 60ft-1.112 sec., 330ft-2.919, 660ft-4.459/157.65 mph, 1,000ft-5.826.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.952/193.29, Now #11; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.960/190.86, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.931/191.84, Was #7

Rhett Lougheed is on the bump spot at 7.092.

Johnson picks up the pace too and bumps into the field on a nice clean pass.

Smith makes a good pass, but doesn't improve. She stays #7 for now,

Steve Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.076 sec., 330ft-2.908, 660ft-4.447/158.89 mph, 1,000ft-5.795.
Angie Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.068 sec., 330ft-2.881, 660ft-4.431/157.52 mph, 1,000ft-5.788.

Both bikes are in the field and both are just a little slower than yesterday.

Two strong passes, but no improvements.

Hines is close to wrapping up the Championship and he finds a little more ET, but stays #3 for the session.

Arana's bike struggles off the line and he sits up early.
