Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 50th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steve Faria Runs 9.792/63.94, Now #21; Best prior run: 8.152/71.09, Was #21

5:25 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 65 percent, barometer 28.86 inches, adjusted altitude 2,519 feet, track temperature 74 degrees.

Faria shook the tires hard right at the hit and clicked it off.


Left Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 4.065/284.75, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.459/74.50, Was #19
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.770/324.67, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.478/77.97, Was #20

Chrisman with a good clean pass, but will not get in the show and will start over tomorrow. Massey launched hard and keep the candles lit all the way down the track to go to the number one spot. Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.137, 660ft-3.024/284.69 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.754/326.87, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.799/153.33, Was #18
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 7.227/91.37, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.105/139.86, Was #20

Kalitta with a great looking pass, straight down the groove to go to the number one spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.138, 660ft-3.015/288.15 mph. Langdon lost traction early and clicked it off.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.790/322.81, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.505/169.85, Was #17
Right Lane: Jenna Haddock Runs 7.489/90.74, Now #19; Best prior run: 4.816/151.14, Was #19

Todd with a really nice pass, keep it hitting on all eight and the big Goodyears hooked up all the way down the track to get into the top half of the show. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.843 sec., 330ft-2.143, 660ft-3.039/283.19 mph. Haddock started to shake and clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.856/286.01, Now #14; Best prior run: 3.883/261.37, Was #15
Right Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.776/322.58, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.663/158.76, Was #18

Force was on a great looking pass until it started drifting out of the groove and over close to the wall before she clicked it off. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.152, 660ft-3.067/277.54 mph. alBalooshi with a great looking pass, straight down the groove to go to the number three spot. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.148, 660ft-3.032/287.35 mph.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.827/321.04, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.875/319.90, Was #16
Right Lane: Dom Lagana Runs 3.965/260.21, Now #17; Best prior run: 3.927/286.19, Was #17

McMillen with a good looking pass to get back into the show. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.164, 660ft-3.071/280.60 mph. Lagana was on a good pass until it started eating itself up on the top end and he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 7.332/79.43, Now #15; Best prior run: 3.852/314.90, Was #14
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.830/302.08, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.867/312.64, Was #16

Buff started to smoke the tires early and clicked it off. Millican was on a good pass until the car pushed out a head gasket right in the lights and he just misses getting into the top 12.

Left Lane: Billy Torrence Runs 3.805/321.12, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.847/318.47, Was #14
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 6.317/102.40, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.819/272.34, Was #11

Torrence was straight down the groove to get back into the show...Billy Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.830 sec., 330ft-2.141, 660ft-3.050/279.85 mph. Lucas started to lose traction early and clicked it off

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.770/322.11, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.795/323.81, Was #8
Right Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 8.492/83.23, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.807/319.82, Was #11

Schumacher launched hard and keep it hitting on all eight to go to the number three spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.829 sec., 330ft-2.120, 660ft-3.017/281.83 mph. When he deployed the chutes both pilot chutes when flying off. Crampton lost traction early and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 7.901/75.70, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.794/321.42, Was #8
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.790/323.97, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.803/324.83, Was #9

Vandergriff started to shake the tires right at the hit and clicked it off. Torrence with a good looking pass, straight down the groove. He tied Todd's E.T. and will get the position because of his faster speed. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.142, 660ft-3.041/282.60 mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.773/318.62, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.786/315.34, Was #6
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.790/324.20, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.786/324.83, Was #5

This was a great side-by-side drag race to wrap up day one of qualifying. Brown with a real nice pass to go to the number four spot. Dixon keep it hitting on all eight and got bumped back to the number six spot. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.159, 660ft-3.045/285.71 mph.
