LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 14th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Lance Bonham Runs 7.891/171.75, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Elvira Karlsson Runs 7.050/188.67, Now #13; No Prior Run

1:31 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 32 percent, barometer 27.66 inches, adjusted altitude 3,773 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

Angelle Sampey has had to withdraw from this weekend's race. She injured her ankle yesterday when they were unloading equipment but she went ahead and made two qualifying attempts. After the second attempt she went to a local hospital and returned with a cast on her ankle and was declared unfit to continue racing. Prior to this weekend, Sampey had never posted a DNQ in competition, a streak of 186 races.

Bonham drifted toward the centerline and backed off the throttle early. Karlsson made a decent pass and gets in the 13th spot for now.


Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 9.334/95.75, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Rhett Lougheed Runs 7.114/190.75, Now #14; No Prior Run

Harris gets to half track and has problems. Lougheed makes his quickest pass of the weekend and gets in for now.

Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.835/126.40, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.073/189.60, Now #14; No Prior Run

Camarena drifted toward the wall and was out of the throttle early. He gets in on the bump, for now. Berry makes his quickest pass of the weekend and gets in the 14th spot for now.

Left Lane: John Hall Runs 7.039/189.36, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 7.027/189.68, Now #11; No Prior Run

Hall improves from his earlier attempts and gets in the 13th spot for now. Pollacheck improves and gets in the show in the 11th spot for now.

Left Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.960/193.27, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.035/188.41, Was #12
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.972/191.62, Now #4; No Prior Run

Smith makes her first pass in the sixes this weekend and moves all the way to the third spot for now. Johnson makes a big improvement and falls in right behind in the fourth spot.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 6.996/190.14, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.025/189.07, Was #12
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.941/193.74, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.992/192.30, Was #8

Arana makes his quickest pass of the weekend and takes the top spot for now. Underdahl improves and moves up a few spots to ninth.

Left Lane: Adam Arana Runs 7.372/147.29, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.016/192.08, Was #12
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.918/193.60, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.010/189.98, Was #10

Krawiec makes the quickest pass of the weekend so far but it may not hold through one more pair. Arana had problems late in the run and was sitting up on the bike early.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 8.860/105.37, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.989/194.07, Was #9
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.986/191.16, Now #9; No Prior Run

Arana's bike stumbled off the line and he does not improve. Gann improves and gets in the show in the ninth spot for now.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.909/193.93, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.979/191.59, Was #8
Right Lane: Chaz Kennedy Runs 6.967/192.06, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.040/187.31, Was #16

Hines goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the weekend to take the pole for now. Kennedy makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up to the seventh spot.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.906/195.05, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.974/193.02, Was #9
Right Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 6.935/192.49, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.015/190.92, Was #13

Smith makes an impressive pass and takes the top spot from Smith. Sullivan makes her quickest pass of the weekend and moves up to the fourth spot.

Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 15.179/36.58, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.946/192.55, Was #6
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.899/195.25, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.956/193.82, Was #7

Ray does his burnout moves toward the line and the engine dies. His crew scrambles and gets the bike restarted.

Ray goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the weekend to take the pole to end this session. Savoie has problems early and is out of power.
