LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 14th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.551/260.71, Now #1; Best prior run: 23.326/94.14, Was #19
Right Lane: John Cannuli No Time, Now #20; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 31 percent, barometer 27.68 inches, adjusted altitude 3,849 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

Whiteley launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Annie Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.939 sec., 330ft-2.472, 660ft-3.668/206.70 mph, 1,000ft-4.688. Cannuli left before the tree was activated, but appeared to make a good pass, he will be down to one last attempt.


Left Lane: Bernie Harrington Runs 5.856/240.42, Now #15; Best prior run: 12.007/82.38, Was #18
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.631/260.61, Now #4; Best prior run: 20.495/23.60, Was #19

Harrington is straight down the groove to get in the show. Payne with a real nice pass to get into the top half of the show. Jay Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.531, 660ft-3.743/204.23 mph, 1,000ft-4.766.

This was a great drag side-by-side drag race...they both launch hard and keep therm hooked up to go to the number two and three spots. Steve Harker's incremental times: 60ft-0.992 sec., 330ft-2.545, 660ft-3.734/209.01 mph, 1,000ft-4.742.
Tony Bartone's incremental times: 60ft-0.970 sec., 330ft-2.518, 660ft-3.715/206.99 mph, 1,000ft-4.733.

Left Lane: Mike Doushgounian Runs 5.644/260.26, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.144/130.97, Was #18
Right Lane: Greg Hunter Runs 5.754/253.18, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.523/152.85, Was #19

Doushgounian made a quick move toward the center line, but he reeled it in and made a great pass to get into the top half of the show. Mike Doushgounian's incremental times: 60ft-1.007 sec., 330ft-2.558, 660ft-3.759/206.07 mph, 1,000ft-4.781. Hunter made a quick move toward thew wall, but reeled it in and to get into the show. Greg Hunter's incremental times: 60ft-0.951 sec., 330ft-2.528, 660ft-3.798/196.44 mph, 1,000ft-4.865.

Left Lane: Nick Januik Runs 5.644/259.06, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.800/254.18, Was #16
Right Lane: Terry Ruckman Runs 5.665/257.28, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.843/253.95, Was #18

Januik with a real nice pass to get off the bubble and into the top half of the show. Nick Januik's incremental times: 60ft-0.965 sec., 330ft-2.534, 660ft-3.747/205.26 mph, 1,000ft-4.776. Ruckman was right there with him to get in the show. Terry Ruckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.974 sec., 330ft-2.541, 660ft-3.758/204.39 mph, 1,000ft-4.791.

Left Lane: Shane Westerfield No Time, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.740/253.66, Was #14
Right Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 13.682/77.86, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.833/251.91, Was #18

Westerfield made a quick move toward the centerline and collected 330-foot cone, so his run will be DQ'ed. Bellemeur saw Westerfield coming toward him and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Jonnie Lindberg Runs 5.694/258.47, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.734/254.47, Was #13
Right Lane: Jirka Kaplan Runs 5.753/256.45, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.779/251.86, Was #17

Lindberg was straight down the groove to move up the ladder one spot. Jonnie Lindberg's incremental times: 60ft-1.005 sec., 330ft-2.568, 660ft-3.789/203.46 mph, 1,000ft-4.824. Kaplan with a good pass to get in the show. Jirka Kaplan's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.603, 660ft-3.836/202.15 mph, 1,000ft-4.876.

Left Lane: Kris Hool Runs 5.717/258.86, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.700/253.61, Was #13
Right Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 9.573/92.68, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.770/252.19, Was #17

Hool with a good pass, but he will not improve...Gordon with a lot of tire shake and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Brian Hough Runs 5.620/255.77, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.665/253.09, Was #10
Right Lane: Steve Gasparrelli Runs 5.642/258.81, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.682/255.58, Was #11

Hough keep it hooked up and goes into the top half of the show. Brian Hough's incremental times: 60ft-0.961 sec., 330ft-2.508, 660ft-3.715/205.41 mph, 1,000ft-4.744. Gasparrelli makes a move in the right direction and moves into the top half of the show. Steve Gasparrelli's incremental times: 60ft-0.965 sec., 330ft-2.527, 660ft-3.742/204.26 mph, 1,000ft-4.771.

Left Lane: Ulf Leanders Runs 5.551/263.67, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.624/259.11, Was #6
Right Lane: John Lombardo Jr. Runs 11.550/69.31, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.600/260.01, Was #4

Leanders launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the top of the list. That was a great pass...Ulf Leanders' incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.499, 660ft-3.687/209.01 mph, 1,000ft-4.698. Lombardo Jr. with a lot of tire shake and clicked it off.
