MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 30th annual Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run: Left Lane: Mike Smith Runs 5.142/228.07, Now #17; No Prior Run Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 5.377/120.95, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.769/84.89, Was #17 4:25 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 63 degrees, relative humidity 59 percent, barometer 29.04 inches, adjusted altitude 1,859 feet, track temperature 80 degrees. This was a pair of ugly runs. Smith's car shook the rear tires hard.
He pedaled and tried to get back on the throttle, but had more shake. Diehl's car shook so hard that the chutes came out before it
reached mid track. Neither driver will make the field for eliminations tomorrow. Smith and Diehl were the only non-qualified drivers
for Funny Car, so the field is now set. Right Lane: John Bojec Runs 8.499/64.07, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.029/155.52, Was #16 When Diehl and Smith failed to make the field in the previous pair, Bojec knew he'd qualified for his first national event in Funny Car. He'll stay in the number 16 spot in the order. he launched and got about 200 feet out when he shut down. Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 9.085/82.35, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.090/314.46, Was #11 Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.568/167.63, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.602/219.97, Was #15 Wilkerson shook the rear tires about 200 feet out and clicked it off. Tasca's car shook the rear tires and the chutes came out before he reached mid track. Left Lane: Chad Head Runs 4.630/182.16, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.088/309.34, Was #10 Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.171/293.98, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.474/273.22, Was #14 Head had some tire shake so he will not move up with this run. Pedregon was quicker than he was earlier today but not quick enough to change his position. Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.104/301.60, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.087/307.02, Was #9 Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.008/320.36, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.108/305.29, Was #13 Force had a strong run that moved her up 10 spots in the qualifying order. DeJoria was pushed down one spot when Force leapt over her. Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.017/316.97, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.069/313.58, Was #9 Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 10.248/73.05, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.065/316.01, Was #8 Johnson smoked the rear tires out of the gate. Beckman had his quickest run of the weekend so far to move up five spots in the order. Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 5.923/115.08, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.063/320.20, Was #8 Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.009/320.13, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.053/318.17, Was #7 When Beckman moved up in the previous pair, he pushed Capps down one spot in the order. Capps was not able to regain the spot when he shook the rear tires at 330 feet, then the rear end of the car got loose and the car started to go sideways. In the other lane, Hight took his car straight down the groove to move up three spots in the order. Left Lane: John Force Runs 3.997/323.97, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.046/318.24, Was #6 Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 7.190/86.06, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.046/316.15, Was #7 Force had a good run down the middle of his lane to move into the number two spot in the order for now, Worsham stayed where he was in the order after his car shook the rear tires before he reached 330 feet. Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.291/217.49, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.008/321.50, Was #3 Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.107/268.87, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.991/319.52, Was #1 Both drivers had good runs going for about 900 feet, then both had some shake and shut down. Funny car qualifying is over with Cruz Pedregon at the top of the order, followed by John Force and Matt Hagan.
