ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 29th annual AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, amount over/under index, and position in order following run, class and class index:

Left Lane: Phil Unruh Runs 8.669/154.14/-0.251, Now #1 F/SMA Index: 8.92
Right Lane: Raymond Vettel Jr. Runs 11.265/75.46/4.695, Now #2 A/PM Index: 6.57

3:32 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 88 degrees, relative humidity 59 percent, barometer 29.24 inches, adjusted altitude 3,672 feet, track temperature 119 degrees.

Vettel had traction problems off the line and clicked it off early.

Mawhee rattled the tires at the hit and gave up on the run quickly.
