CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Seventh annual Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Earl Nichols Jr. Runs 7.052/141.64, Now #2
Right Lane: Dan Dietrich Runs 5.978/199.40, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 81 percent, barometer 29.38 inches, adjusted altitude 2,756 feet, track temperature 85 degrees.

Nichols shook and shut off. Dietrich made it a little farther down track before it started to lose traction and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Mike Burns No Time, Now #5
Right Lane: Richard Bourke Runs 5.504/263.72, Now #1

Burns gets loose and out of the groove over by the wall and then crosses the lane and collects the timing cones, so his run will get DQ'ed. Bourke with a clean pass, straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Frank Schuster Runs 5.535/255.97, Now #2
Right Lane: Don Nolan Runs 5.843/229.08, Now #3

Schuster with a good clean pass to start the weekend. Nolan was on a good pass until there big bang on the top end and he slowed.

Left Lane: Dan Page Runs 5.368/268.92, Now #1
Right Lane: John Finke Runs 5.636/255.43, Now #4

Page launched hard and was straight down the groove to go to the number one spot. Dan Page's incremental times: 60ft-0.942 sec., 330ft-2.433, 660ft-3.569/220.19 mph, 1,000ft-4.534. finke was skating around a little around half track, but stayed with it to go to the number four spot. 64.

Left Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 5.440/259.56, Now #2
Right Lane: Mia Tedesco Runs 5.969/263.62, Now #7

Veale was straight down the groove to go to the number two spot. Jeff Veale's incremental times: 60ft-0.964 sec., 330ft-2.467, 660ft-3.609/217.11 mph, 1,000ft-4.586. Tedesco with a quick pedal job right off the starting line and goes to the number seven spot.

Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.438/266.74, Now #3
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.318/261.98, Now #1

This was a good side-by-side drag race...Fricke goes to the number three spot with a good pass. Jackie Fricke's incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.503, 660ft-3.643/220.44 mph, 1,000ft-4.607. Shields keep it hooked up to go to the top of the list. Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.925 sec., 330ft-2.401, 660ft-3.509/224.77 mph, 1,000ft-4.472.

Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.303/268.65, Now #2
Right Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.299/273.61, Now #1

This was a great drag race as these two go to the top of the list...Bill Reichert's incremental times: 60ft-0.947 sec., 330ft-2.417, 660ft-3.527/225.26 mph, 1,000ft-4.478.
Randy Meyer's incremental times: 60ft-0.962 sec., 330ft-2.444, 660ft-3.548/227.31 mph, 1,000ft-4.486.

Left Lane: Rich McPhillips No Time, Now #15
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.300/272.50, Now #2

McPhillips was up in smoke right at the hit and coast to a stop before the finish line. Demke with a great looking pass to go to the number two spot. Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.932 sec., 330ft-2.374, 660ft-3.507/219.01 mph, 1,000ft-4.477.
