Nearly 50 Days of Drag Racing Planned for 2014 Race Season

SONOMA, Calif. -- Sonoma Raceway will feature nearly 50 days of drag racing in 2014, highlighted by the return of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series in July.

The world-famous drag strip, considered one of the quickest and fastest in the country, will host 48 days of drag racing in all.

The 27th annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals takes center stage, July 25-27, boasting 8,000-horsepower dragsters topping 330 mile-per-hour speeds and covering the drag strip in less than five seconds. The weekend will feature racing in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle.

The NHRA Division 7 Drag Races, presented by Korbel, will kick off back-to-back weekends of drag racing, when the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series returns the weekend prior to the national event, July 18-20. This event will feature nearly 400 sportsman racers, as well as the six-second door slammers of the West Coast Outlaw Pro Modified Series

Sonoma Raceway will also host two annual programs for drag racing fans: the Summit ET Bracket Drag Racing Series and the raceway's popular Wednesday Night Drags program, which enters its 26th season in 2014. The 13-race Summit ET Bracket Drag Racing Series season kicks off on Jan. 5, while the Wednesday Night Drags program runs March 5-Nov. 12.

The Top the CopsT program, which gives high school students the opportunity to drag race against local law enforcement officers, will run from April through August in conjunction with the Wednesday Night Drags.
