Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Final Session

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 49th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.225/187.57, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.488/177.93, Was #21
Right Lane: Chaz Kennedy Runs 6.946/190.43, Now #12; Best prior run: 20.477/33.77, Was #22

2:36 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 20 percent, barometer 28.91 inches, adjusted altitude 2,892 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.

Jerry Savoie is on the bump spot at 6.995.

Kennedy posted a 1.059 60-foot time and turned that into a winner, bumping Savoie from the field.

Now Jim Underdahl is on the bump spot at 6.974.


Left Lane: James Surber Runs 7.253/179.59, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.250/184.40, Was #22
Right Lane: Rhett Lougheed Runs 7.196/188.44, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.084/189.63, Was #20

Both riders needed career-best runs to get into the field and neither of them achieved that goal.

Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.102/188.36, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.068/189.58, Was #19
Right Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.108/190.97, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.020/193.21, Was #18

Phillips should have already been in the field, but has yet to run in the six-second range this weekend.

Nope, neither rider improved and Underdahl is still alive on the bump spot.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 7.009/191.59, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.974/194.38, Was #16
Right Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 7.020/189.92, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.995/191.08, Was #17

Savoie was just bumped from the field and Underdahl's ET is the mark Savoie needs to beat to get back in.

Nope, once again neither improved and the sixteen bikes who will race tomorrow have been determined. The rest will now race for pairings.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.034/190.51, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.948/192.22, Was #13
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.971/191.08, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.961/191.95, Was #15

Good run by Gann, nothing changed.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.940/190.62, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.940/191.67, Was #11
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.940/194.13, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.952/192.36, Was #14

Hines matched his best prior run, but so did Johnson, with a better speed, and "Stevie J" moved around Hines on the qualifying sheet.

Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.059 sec., 330ft-2.865, 660ft-4.410/157.59 mph, 1,000ft-5.768.
Steve Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.073 sec., 330ft-2.893, 660ft-4.437/158.50 mph, 1,000ft-5.785.

Left Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.971/192.91, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.908/195.22, Was #8
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 7.095/192.17, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.929/192.28, Was #10

No improvement here...

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.930/190.67, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.893/192.60, Was #6
Right Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 6.929/194.55, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.921/195.22, Was #9

Good runs, no improvement.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.875/193.02, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.889/195.82, Was #5
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.937/191.46, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.905/193.24, Was #7

Hector improved a bit, stayed fifth. Ray did not improve.

Left Lane: John Hall Runs 6.918/191.62, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.857/193.71, Was #3
Right Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.967/189.63, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.874/194.18, Was #4

For those that may have missed the earlier note, Pollacheck is riding Matt Smith's Buell this weekend, Smith is riding Pollacheck's.

Left Lane: Adam Arana Runs 6.854/195.34, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.852/196.36, Was #2
Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.883/194.55, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.818/195.31, Was #1

The brothers have been quick all weekend and they were two of the three quickest in this session as well, their Dad splitting the difference this time around, keeping all the bonus points for this round in the family.

That's it, the field is set. Hector Arana Jr. is #1 at 6.818 seconds and Jim Underdahl is on the bump spot at 6.974.
