POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 49th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Bailey Whitaker Runs 7.332/176.40, Now #1

1:37 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 15 percent, barometer 28.97 inches, adjusted altitude 2,987 feet, track temperature 101 degrees.

No sign of any problem for Whitaker, but the word from the top end is that he was missing a wheelie-bar wheel when he got there.

Left Lane: Rhett Lougheed Runs 7.201/181.94, Now #1
Right Lane: James Surber Runs 7.234/180.04, Now #2

The track crew took a cloes look at the top end after these two ran, no problem was visible from here.

Left Lane: Chaz Kennedy Runs 7.276/184.09, Now #3
Right Lane: Redell Harris Runs 19.677/32.15, Now #5

Harris's Buell spun the tire and he sat up almost immediately. Didin't see any obvious problems for Kennedy, but that Star Racing bike is usually much quicker.

Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.157/184.80, Now #1
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.296/180.45, Now #5

Camarena goes to the head of the early list (7 so far).

Left Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 7.071/184.85, Now #2
Right Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 7.005/190.92, Now #1

Katie Sullivan's crew was beating on the shifter to get it into neutral so they could crank the engine. It looked frantic, but it worked.

Underdahl had the low 60-foot time so far and both riders went to the top of the list. Underdahl ran both low ET and top speed, by a lot. Sullivan is second so far in both.

Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.977/192.63, Now #1

Now we're getting down to the real numbers, Smith with our first six of the day.

Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.034/188.44, Now #4

Stevie J's speed was off on the top end, might have a problem.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.007/186.28, Now #4
Right Lane: Adam Arana Runs 6.888/195.28, Now #1

Gann took over low 60-foot time from Underdahl, but Arana drove away from himfrom the 330-foot marker on.

Adam Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.080 sec., 330ft-2.884, 660ft-4.408/160.23 mph, 1,000ft-5.741.

Right Lane: John Hall Runs 7.478/139.95, Now #16

Hall sat up on trhe top end, slowing. Pollachek got into the sixes, barely.

John Hall's incremental times: 60ft-1.046 sec., 330ft-2.865, 660ft-4.474/149.35 mph, 1,000ft-5.970.

Left Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.980/191.19, Now #4
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.944/189.50, Now #2

Krawiec took over the "top-60-foot" honors and was quicker than Tonglet all the way to the stripe.

LE Tonglet's incremental times: 60ft-1.087 sec., 330ft-2.909, 660ft-4.452/158.35 mph, 1,000ft-5.809.
Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.058 sec., 330ft-2.861, 660ft-4.404/158.41 mph, 1,000ft-5.765.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.892/194.55, Now #2
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 9.639/89.05, Now #20

"Big Hector" had problems almost immediately and was sitting up before half track. "Little Hector" made a nice pass, but his brother stayed #1.

Hector Arana Jr's incremental times: 60ft-1.076 sec., 330ft-2.881, 660ft-4.406/160.06 mph, 1,000ft-5.742.

Left Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.974/186.85, Now #4
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.064/187.78, Now #12

The 2013 champion rolled the starting line beam, killing his ETs all the way down the track. Ray made a good run, moved all the way up to fourth.

With a -.065 RT, Matt Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.130 sec., 330ft-2.958, 660ft-4.509/157.19 mph, 1,000ft-5.877.

Michael Ray's incremental times: 60ft-1.064 sec., 330ft-2.872, 660ft-4.418/157.74 mph, 1,000ft-5.785.

After one session, Adam Arana is atop the list at 6.888 and Matt Smith is on the 12-bike bump spot at 7.064.
