MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 29th annual Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run: Left Lane: Chris Foster No Time, Now #16; Best prior run: 13.032/64.11, Was #16 Foster was on the bump spot at the end of the first session and needed to improve his ET to keep DJ Cox from bumping him out. This time, he had a good run going to about 1,000 feet but then drifted right, hit the center line and took out a cone. Thsi run was DQ'ed. Left Lane: Matt Gill Runs 5.804/248.61, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.438/129.89, Was #14 Right Lane: John Headley No Time, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.281/209.14, Was #13 Both drivers did their burnouts but Headley was unable to get his car back to the starting line. He got out of the car and left it on the track while Gill made a solo run. Gill took his car down the groove in a good run that moved him six spots up in the order. Left Lane: John Fiorini Runs 6.516/201.79, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.195/203.95, Was #13 Right Lane: Tony Bogolo Runs 5.780/251.95, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.101/235.93, Was #12 Neither driver made a complete pass in the first session so both were looking to improve their spots in the order this time around. Bogolo moved up four spots with a good run down his lane. Fiorini's pass looked good for about 400 feet but the car stumbled a bit when he shifted and lost some momentum. Left Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.537/261.27, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.043/255.10, Was #12 Right Lane: Eric Lourie Runs 5.747/249.58, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.772/248.29, Was #7 Manzo was in the bottom half of the field after the first session. This time out, he took over the top spot in the order for now with a strong pass that took him right down the groove. Lourise was a bit quicker than he was in the first session. Left Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 5.733/252.38, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.959/250.55, Was #12 Right Lane: Dan Pomponio Runs 5.789/253.99, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.753/254.76, Was #8 Tigges moved up five spots anbd pushed Pomponio down in the process. Left Lane: Marie Ferriolo Runs 10.604/81.16, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.817/248.02, Was #12 Right Lane: Paul Noakes Runs 5.759/255.87, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.723/256.99, Was #6 Ferriolo shook the rear tires out of the gate and clicked it off right away. Noakes went down the track but did not improve his spot in the order. Left Lane: Todd Veney Runs 5.659/254.38, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.666/253.99, Was #5 Right Lane: John Anderika Runs 5.704/255.24, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.648/255.15, Was #3 Anderika, who runs Anderika's All American Grill with his wife Ruth Ann, was not quite as quick as he was in the first session so he'll stay where he was in the order. Veney's pass looked okay but was not as quick as he was earlier today. Left Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 5.864/204.32, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.651/260.06, Was #4 Right Lane: Andy Bohl Runs 5.656/256.84, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.630/256.89, Was #2 Ferro's car drifted left toward the wall at mid track. He straightened it out but then it went across the groove and over the center line, so this run was DQ'ed.
