MADISON, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Second annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Wesley Wells Runs 7.110/187.57, Now #2
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.086/186.85, Now #1

3:06 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 41 percent, barometer 29.58 inches, adjusted altitude 2,831 feet, track temperature 112 degrees.



Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.101/169.59, Now #3
Right Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.962/192.71, Now #1

Savoie makes a decent pass and takes the early pole. Phillips' engine was smoking badly as he went through the lights.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 6.959/194.55, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Berry No Time, Now #6

Berry was leaking something as he staged and had to click it off. Underdahl makes a clean pass.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.906/193.90, Now #1
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.941/192.71, Now #2

Johnson goes right down the groove with a good run for the conditions to take the pole for now. Hines wasn't far behind and gets in the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.957/192.22, Now #4
Right Lane: Adam Arana Runs 6.876/195.25, Now #1

Arana goes right down the groove and takes the top spot for now. Gann makes a clean run and gets in the fourth spot for now.

Left Lane: John Hall No Time, Now #12
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.928/193.18, Now #3

Hall's engine died in the water box, he gets it re-started only to have it die again and he does not make a pass. Tonglet makes a decent pass and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.881/194.58, Now #3
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.844/195.79, Now #1

Ray goes right down the groove and takes the top spot for now. Pollacheck makes a decent pass and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.897/192.30, Now #4
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.942/195.70, Now #8

Krawiec makes a decent pass and gets in the fourth spot for now. Arana was drifting to the left all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.892/195.96, Now #4
Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.917/192.99, Now #7

Smith makes a decent pass and gets in the fourth spot to end this session; Arana goes to the seventh spot.
