Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 28th annual AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Karl Brounkowski Runs 5.884/234.57, Now #1

10:33 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 51 percent, barometer 29.39 inches, adjusted altitude 2,192 feet, track temperature 88 degrees.

Brounkowski had a hole or two out on the right side all the way through the run.


Left Lane: Aaron Tatum Runs 5.480/268.71, Now #1
Right Lane: Shayne Lawson Runs 19.747/51.56, Now #3

Lawson goes up in smoke at the hit and was off the throttle by the time he reached the sixty foot mark. Tatum drifted to the right all the way through the run but was still able to make a decent pass.

Left Lane: Darvin Martinets Runs 10.421/43.98, Now #3
Right Lane: Michael Manners Runs 12.474/78.32, Now #4

Manners goes up in smoke at the hit, pedals once, then boils the hides for about 300 feet before giving up on the run. Martinets gets about 300 feet out and the engine goes up in a ball of flame.

Left Lane: David Brounkowski Runs 5.454/252.00, Now #1
Right Lane: Lee Callaway Runs 8.016/104.20, Now #4

Callaway pulls the wheels off the line, gets about 100 feet out and backs off throttle to get the front end down. Brounkowski drifted to the right all the way through the run, getting close to the timing block a t the end of the track. He makes a decent pass and takes the pole for now.

Left Lane: Monroe Guest Runs 5.379/253.28, Now #1
Right Lane: Buddy Domingue Runs 5.465/264.39, Now #3

Guest goes right down the groove with a clean pass, his quickest of the year, and he takes the pole for now. Domingue makes a decent pass and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: James Thompson Runs 5.416/268.81, Now #3
Right Lane: Mark Taliaferro Runs 5.287/271.30, Now #1

Taliaferro makes his quickest pass of the year and takes the top spot for now. Thompson makes a clean, straight pass and moves into the third spot.

Left Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.409/257.48, Now #4
Right Lane: Forrest Fair Runs 5.393/263.10, Now #3

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove. Fair gets in the third spot for now, Dreher in the fourth.

Left Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 26.796/30.16, Now #15
Right Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.374/268.65, Now #2

Pierce goes up in smoke at the hit and gives up on the run quickly. Severance makes a move to the left at the hit but stays on the throttle and makes a decent pass to get on the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Ray Martin Runs 5.336/268.81, Now #2
Right Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.352/267.91, Now #3

A good side-by-side, they were glued together all the way through the run. Martin gets in the second spot for now, Reichert right behind in the third.

Left Lane: Brandon Booher Runs 5.411/268.22, Now #9
Right Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.316/267.11, Now #2

Whitely made a decent pass but had a cylinder going in and out early in the run. Booher make a clean pass and gets in the ninth spot.
