ENNIS, Texas - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 28th annual AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed this round, amount over/under index this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time, speed & over/under Index, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mitch Withers No Time, Now #20; A/A Index: 7.11, Prior Best: 7.208/158.52/0.098, Was #20
Right Lane: Dennis Smiley Runs 11.680/82.62/4.280, Now #23; BB/AM Index: 7.40, Prior Best: 8.807/167.80/1.407, Was #23

9:56 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 55 percent, barometer 29.39 inches, adjusted altitude 2,133 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

Smiley blew the tires off at the hit and had to back off the throttle. Withers rolled the beam and received no time.

Maris moved to the left, then back to the right, then got the dragster back in the groove around half track. He improves a little and moves up a few spots in the order. Stewart improves and moves up to the ninth spot for now.

White rattled the tires off the line and backed off the throttle early. Hall improves and moves up to the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: Kevin Self Runs 7.744/168.72/-0.676, Now #1; F/EA Index: 8.42, Prior Best: 7.862/167.03/-0.558, Was #3
Right Lane: Pete Carbery Runs 7.191/197.28/-0.379, Now #18; B/AA Index: 7.57, Prior Best: 8.237/193.18/0.667, Was #22

Self goes right down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend and takes the pole for now. Carbery improves and moves up to the 18th spot for now.

Neff makes a clean pass and moves up to the fourth spot for now. Compton improves and gets in the top half of the field.

Martin shook the tires a little off the line and slowed from his earlier attempt. Tanksley improves and moves up to the fourth spot.

Robison makes a big improvement and moves all the way to the fourth spot. Kent picks up a tenth and goes to the sixth spot.

Thomas makes a decent pass and moves up to the seventh spot. Goodman improves but not enough to move up in the order.

Massel had problems at the line and took it easy down the track.
