CONCORD, N.C. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Sixth annual Carlyle Tools NHRA Carolina Nationals presented by NAPA Auto Parts:

Tigges leaves a little too soon and fouls. Veney goes right down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend to take the win.

Westerfield hits the throttle and loses traction. He pedals a couple of times and is able to get the slicks to bite. Ferriolo gets about 300 feet out and loses traction. He makes a move to the left and tags the wall.

Headley gets out of the gate first and starts to pull away. He gets about 200 feet out, loses traction and makes a move toward the wall. Manzo goes around him at that point and pulls away for the win.

Frank Manzo's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.122), 330 ft(0.265), 660ft(0.781), 1,000ft(1.706). MOV: 2.9154 seconds (more than 100 feet).

Ferro gets a small advantage off the line then runs his quickest pass of the weekend to pull away for the win. Naves makes his quickest pass of the weekend but was falling behind at every marker.

Pomponio gets the advantage off the line and that was all he needed. Simonton made her best pass of the weekend but couldn't make up the difference.

Dan Pomponio's incremental margins: 60ft(0.050), 330 ft(0.060), 660ft(0.055), 1,000ft(0.056). MOV: 0.0602 seconds (approximately 23 feet).

in the next round it will be Ferro with lane choice over Veney, Pomponio vs. Westerfield and manzo will have a bye.
