CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Sixth annual Carlyle Tools NHRA Carolina Nationals presented by NAPA Auto Parts listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 21.751/30.46, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 5.850/116.17, Now #13; No Prior Run

2:18 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 29.37 inches, adjusted altitude 2,533 feet, track temperature 117 degrees.

This is Gilbertson's first race since this race last year.

Gilbertson goes up in smoke at the hit and backs off the throttle. Arend gets a little further down track, strikes the tires and clicks it off.

Capps and Gray both go up in smoke early. Capps gets in the field in the 13th spot, Gray stays in seventh.

Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 7.439/84.82, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.113/302.41, Was #12

Pedregon makes his quickest pass of the weekend and gets in the field in the 13th spot for now. Tasca has problems early and has to back off the throttle.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.815/165.76, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.038/317.94, Was #7
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.755/170.21, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.099/309.91, Was #11

Force and Beckman get about 300 feet out, strike the tires and back off the throttle.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 5.539/126.62, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.034/317.72, Was #6
Right Lane: Chad Head Runs 4.180/300.20, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.090/305.91, Was #9

Worsham was on a decent pass but struck the tires about 500 feet out. Head goes right down the groove with a decent pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 11.370/81.28, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.027/310.70, Was #5
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.091/309.42, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.042/309.84, Was #8

DeJoria goes up in smoke early and has to give up on the run. Hight makes the quickest pass of the session so far but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 6.741/103.84, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.020/318.99, Was #3
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 5.138/145.25, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.021/319.37, Was #4

Wilkerson goes up in smoke quickly and has to back off the throttle. Force gets about 300 feet out, strikes the tires and aborts the run.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.517/130.18, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.980/319.22, Was #1
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.105/309.63, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.992/320.58, Was #2

Pedregon gets about 300 feet out and goes up in smoke. Hagan goes right down the groove with the second quickest pass of the round.
