CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Sixth annual Carlyle Tools NHRA Carolina Nationals presented by NAPA Auto Parts listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Chad Head Runs 5.143/147.02, Now #1

5:50 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 39 percent, barometer 29.11 inches, adjusted altitude 3,400 feet, track temperature 112 degrees.

Head gets about 300 feet out, shakes the tires and clicks it off.

Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.122/307.16, Now #1

Arend makes a decent pass but has a small fire erupt under the car as he crosses the line.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.154/302.41, Now #3
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.113/302.41, Now #1

Tasca makes a clean, straight pass but the engine explodes as he goes through the lights. DeJoria went right down the groove with a decent pass to get in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.075/312.50, Now #1
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.871/201.67, Now #5

Hight lost traction early in the run and had to back off the throttle. Worsham goes right down the groove and takes the pole for now.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.048/150.05, Now #7
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.086/314.39, Now #2

Wilkerson had traction problems early and had to back off the throttle. Force went right down the groove and moves into the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.720/172.36, Now #7
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.099/309.91, Now #3

Pedregon had problems around half track and the car nosed over. Beckman made a clean pass and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.119/296.76, Now #6
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.093/308.14, Now #3

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove with no problems. Gray moves into the third spot, Force in the sixth, for now.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.191/257.92, Now #10
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.085/309.84, Now #2

Capps makes a clean pass but Hagan was pulling away all the way through the run.
