Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #1

CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Sixth annual Carlyle Tools NHRA Carolina Nationals presented by NAPA Auto Parts listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Junior Pippin Runs 7.175/181.74, Now #1

4:47 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 38 percent, barometer 29.11 inches, adjusted altitude 3,521 feet, track temperature 116 degrees.

Pippin makes his first pass of the season, his last being Norwalk in 2011. He makes a clean pass but will have a tough time staying in the field with this pass.


Left Lane: Anne Hansen Runs 7.422/179.78, Now #3
Right Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.143/188.46, Now #1

Harris makes a decent pass and takes the pole for now. Hansen makes her first pass of the season.

Left Lane: Dawn Minturn Runs 7.052/188.38, Now #1
Right Lane: Wesley Wells Runs 7.126/186.98, Now #2

Minturn makes the quickest pass so far and takes the pole for now. Wells makes a clean run and gets in the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 18.237/26.27, Now #7
Right Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 7.072/190.92, Now #2

Savoie broke right off the line and coasted through the lights. Underdahl made a decent pass and gets in the two spot for now.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 6.974/190.94, Now #1
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.977/190.70, Now #2

Berry and Smith go right down the groove and make the first passes in the '90's to take the top two spots for now.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.047/188.70, Now #3
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 8.240/112.24, Now #10

Johnson drifts to the left, gets close to the centerline, then backs off the throttle about 800 feet out. Hines makes a clean pass but is off the pace.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.993/190.81, Now #3
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.993/190.62, Now #4

Gann and Tonglet were glued together all the way through the run with Gann getting the third spot by virtue of his faster speed.

Left Lane: Adam Arana Runs 6.947/191.89, Now #1
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.022/191.10, Now #6

Arana makes an impressive pass and takes the pole for now. Krawiec makes a clean pass but is off the pace.

Left Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.988/184.90, Now #4
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.357/182.50, Now #14

Pollacheck was fighting to keep the bike off the centerline all the way through the run but is able to stay on the throttle and gets in the fourth spot for now.

Left Lane: John Hall Runs 6.924/190.94, Now #2
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.894/194.58, Now #1

Ray goes right down the groove with the first pass in the '80's and takes the pole for now. Hall makes a clean pass and gets in right behind in the second spot.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.892/194.63, Now #1
Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 8.046/122.40, Now #19

Arana spins a little off the line, makes a move to the left, then backs off the throttle. Smith goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the session and takes the pole.
