CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Sixth annual Carlyle Tools NHRA Carolina Nationals presented by NAPA Auto Parts listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Marie Ferriolo Runs 5.754/247.43, Now #1

10:19 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 29.17 inches, adjusted altitude 3,216 feet.

Ferriolo makes a clean straight pass to set the early pace.

Left Lane: Bill Naves Runs 6.848/135.95, Now #3
Right Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 5.713/252.85, Now #1

Tigges drifted to the right, then back to the left, then got it straightened out for a decent pass. Naves got out of the groove, moved to the left and clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 5.806/258.17, Now #3
Right Lane: Cassie Simonton Runs 10.255/123.24, Now #5

Simonton loses traction early and backs off the throttle. Ferro pedaled once early in the run but still made a decent pass.

Left Lane: Todd Veney Runs 5.692/254.52, Now #2
Right Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 5.691/256.26, Now #1

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove. Westerfield takes the top spot for now, veney falls in right behind in the second spot.

Left Lane: Dan Pomponio Runs 5.650/256.31, Now #2
Right Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.535/261.62, Now #1

Manzo goes right down the groove and takes the pole to end this session. Pomponio makes a clean pass and moves into the second spot.
